Hello! I finally went to the doctor today (if any of you remember I've never been for depression) and she diagnosed me with depression this morning. She is putting me on 50mg of Zoloft everyday, has anyone taken this and what were the outcomes?? She also said I'd benefit from therapy

Hey there Jesse.
I'm glad you're seeking the road to recovery but from what I learned pills are never the answer, but therapy in the other hand is defiantly a great way to start your recovery
Those pills aren't gonna really benefit you , they won't fix anything it'll only be temporary and you'll wallet will only be sucked out dry just for those pillls when you can just take therapy. It has worked out for me and plenty of co companions that I know.
I'm giving you my personal opinion on pills but it's your choice
If it makes you happy then so be it
Good luck on your recovery

Hi Jesse, glad you started your journey!
I was on Zoloft for quite a while, and it's used for different aspects of depression. I don't want to be too specific otherwise you start looking for symptoms. I'm sure you are doing a lot of online research anyway.
But I will tell you that it helped me over a bad period, but finally I had to make a change because it seems that sometimes when you fix one problem, you create another. It really calmed me down, and in the end I felt it made me too calm. I've moved on to some other meds, and by being honest with the doc, they can adjust dose, add other meds, take away meds. Mine have been adjusted several times as I keep working to work myself off. They helped when I needed it most though.
I've found sexual side affects with some of my meds over the years, and have worked through them, but otherwise I've had few or no negative effects.
Follow up on therapy, groups, etc., (I did) depending on your situation. PM if you want some specifics.

I take setraline I'm not sure if it's similiar or not it's a SSRI I know that been on for 6 weeks at 50 and now 100mg for 2 weeks along with propranolol and they seem to be helping however just be ready for some side effects such as increased anxiety or sleeplessness/sleepiness or other symptoms, however I can't stress enough STAY with them because they take a while
To kick in for some people I neve Felt anything until week 6 where I slightly improved however I see these people on here a lot saying " I've decided to come off the meds because of how they make me feel" however a lot of these people quit after a week or two and don't give A chance. Now I don't know about you but for me this is The FINAL option and I need this to work so I had no option but to continue because I refuse to live my life like this anymore even though I have only been like this for a year I feel like I have lost a year of my life where everything suffers because of it , friends work play everything, so this is do or die because frankly if it doesn't work my life isn't worth living. If you ever need a chat or info on any experiences I have had about meds or whatever feel free to message me depression and anxiety is a lonely place PS sorry for the rant lol

I would've never seen myself going to a doctor for this but honestly it helps a little bit. Obviously you're not feeling awesome and perfectly new when you walk out of there but it is a start. I made an appointment and just asked if I could talk to someone about how I'm feeling. I had a 30 min appointment of me just talking about everything that's going on and once I was done, they told me I had depression and they recommended a lot of things that could help me and little things I could do to help myself. I would recommend going if you have anymore questions or need someone to talk to you can pm me!
