Hi joe well done on your op. You will be joining the weepies club as well as the hippies club, it's normal to feel emotional you have been throught major surgery, it's a shock to the system, but you will get there, it will have its ups and downs ( if your not one of the really lucky ones) .Its a game of doing exercises and taking melds now for a while but it's worth it, just exercise, rest when tired and take one day at a time, and if help is at hand take it.

Hi Joe, am 43 and had my op LTHR 20 days ago, yes I was feeling emotional too and depressed due to the fact I felt helpless and dependant was very unusual for a independent person like me, kept dropping stuff on the floor, etc but it does get better I would say after 2 weeks, just hang in there and do your exercises..

    Good luck xx

I stayed 5 days in hospital because I had complications with the strong medications like codeine, my stomach couldnt take it and became weak, on day 4 the pain was mild and was ok with just panadol.

      Good luck with your op...

I agree with Lorraine. It's major surgery and no doubt you will have been gearing yourself up for it. Now it's actually done you can start the recovery journey. Everyone is different, I had very mixed emotions and still do.

Not sure family and friends fully understood what I was going through, felt very vulnerable and useless. But time is the healer and you will have good days and bad days

Take medication so that you can complete exercises. Don't try to be brave and put up with pain. Accept help from others and ask for it if needed

Good luck and wishing you well

Hi Joe ...welcome to this wonderful forum ... as lorraine put it so well, join the club of hippies and weepies - I am 5 weeks post-op and still going up (more) and down (less) -

Knowing that there are many of you out there really helps - it will come and go - and please, whenever you feel lousy, share it with all your fellow hippies - nobody else understands - heck, I don't even understand it myself most of the times -

    See you around ....

Hi Amanda ... I have seen your posts and just want to say how I admire you ... it is tough enough to have to deal with your own recovery and being the care taker of an disabled spouse must be very challenging - Do you have a lot of support around you? how do you cope? best wishes and warm regards

Hi Renee! Thank you so much! Your kind words mean a lot! I also suffer from chronic anxiety! I made the social services get my hubby a care package, and they were going to stop two weeks ago! But as I am still on a walking stick! They will be here till the middle of may! They come twice a day to help with getting hubby up giving breakfast, then they come again in the evenings to warm up supper! The rest is up to me! Some times I wish I had never had this op as I am still swollen and have to use comode in my bedroom when I wake at funny o clock! But I respond to reflexology and hydrotherapy so will hopefully improve as the weeks progress! Where are you in uk? I am in surrey! Regards Amanda

Thank you Joe! I also have arthritis in left hip and my knees! So I will be bionic maybe one day! I am going to have hydrotherapy and reflexology as often as I can!! As I was so terrified of the op!many people thought I would bottle out! But I couldn't have a spinal as I was through the roof with anxiety!! Still onwards and upwards now! One step at a time! Where in uk are you? Regards Amanda

Its not very nice is it i was in such shock when they told me i had it .

I live in liverpool. They didn't offer me a spinal, don't know why but I suppose I was glad I'm not very good at the dentist.

      Thanks again joe xx
