    dear Julie,

welcome to our Hippies family -

I think we all found this forum when we were are in some kind of silent desperation, trying to find something to help us make the pain go away .

    I did too -

at that time I was 3 weeks post-op from 1st THR surgery and had incredible pain again in groin on unoperated side ...

nobody really I could talk to and was told to just bear and grin it ...

SInce I found this forum, my life has changed ... of course I still had bouts of depression and pity parties galore, but hey ... there were/are people who are going through the same thing and totally understand me -

I am now a "veteran" with 2 THR surgeries within 6 months and I am telling you, I would not have gone through all this without the help, support and unconditional love from from all of my fellow travellers -  it is so encouraging to read posts from pre-ops , scared, anxious, worried sick, who then become great encouragers post-op .....

Thank you for joining us here -

    warm big hug

    renee

    Hi Julie,

Like you I found this post op when I managed to use the laptop a bit.

I wish I had found it about two weeks before the op when I was not foggy brained with drugs etc.

Now I turn to this forum for everything to do with hips. It is so accessible, whereas getting to see a doctor takes ages unless you go to A and E, which is quite the wrong thing to do in our situation.

Also all the people here are so clued up. It makes me realise we take our health and bodies for granted a lot of the time and don't know enough  about what keeps us ticking over and healthy.

I'm now 3 weeks post op and almost feel worse. Can't sleep at night, can't get comfortable. Very emotional, trying to get off drugs. Yikes!!

I had a good friend who had her colon removed years ago explain to me that when you have a body part removed you go through a loss and it can be difficult adjusting to your replacement. In her case it was a colostomy bag. In my case, it's my hip. I don't feel like I can trust it. I'm affraid it will break, even though I know it is better and stronger then my own hip was. It still feels awkward. Makes sence why I'm feeling this way. Has anyone else gone through this?

      Hi Carla,

Its normal to be untrusting of our implant and first time around if I as much as sneezed and had a twinge I was ready to run to A&E thinking I had dislocated but you know, our implants are very strong, and dislocation is very rare, about 2% so the chance of your implant failing you is tiny.

Second time around I'm much more confident, knowing how resilient both my implant and my body are.

We all suffer the highs and lows of hip replacement surgery. You have been through major surgery and the effects of the drugs and anaesthetic can be longer lasting than we would imagine. It's life changing and scary so it's no surprise we feel as we do afterwards. It's also very frustrating when you have been independent and used to doing things for yourself to suddenly find yourself reliant on others for help with everyday tasks. It gets better though, trust me and being released from the long round of pain and drugs is nothing short of a miracle.

You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

      Ali xx

Hi Julie, I too found this forum some 3 weeks post op and wish I had found it earlier! During my first 2 weeks I was paranoid and very distrusting of the new joint, convinced that I had dislocated it.... of course I had not, but if I could have aired my concerns here, I would have been reassured by others and been a lot happier. I am now 5 months post op and feeling great. This is a fantastic forum and when (eventually) my other hip needs replacing, I know where to turn!

    Happy recovery and warm wishes,

    Alison
