Hi I'm presuming its due to arthritis that you have been offered a HR is that right, it could be something as simple as you are doing more exercises and its smoothed off the joint, if that's the case it may only be a temporary pain relief and sods law says that if you cancelled your op it would probably come back with a vengeance

    Hi Tim,

First welcome to the group.  I had a similar experience.   I am 7 weeks post-op but about 3-4 weeks before the surgery I was feeling so good I thought I should cancel the operation.   SILLY SILLY me, it was short lived and as someone said earlier, when it came back it came with a vengeance (enjoy the respite).  Rest assured, you are not the only one to go through this.

I personally think it was psychological, like feeling better just before the dentist visit.

Can't wait to hear how your surgery and recovery go.

Hi Tim, I'm 7 weeks post op and since xmas my pain had disappeared and I felt a bit of a fraud. It however gave me the opportunity to get to gym to prep which has made a difference. I also know that had I postponed it the pain would be back and it was always worse every time and I was bone on bone at the end. Best to have now whilst you're feeling OK as the pain will always return!! Good luck

Hi Tim, I too had doubt that I needed the surgery as the pain had subsided; but I realized it was because I had slowed down so much! I list so much strength because I was doing as little as possible without realizing it. When I did do something big like grocery shopping it wiped me out and my hip would ache and throb. I'm 29 days out FROM THR and I'm much better than I was. Physical therapy and occupational therapy have given me my strength and confidence back. Good luck on your journey and I'm sure you will fly!!!

    Hi Tim,

I'm assuming that you previously had X-rays which showed that your joint is failing.  If this is the case, you may still have good and bad days.  I can guarantee that your hip will not grow more cartiliage and will only get worse over time.  As you have already had to wait a year to have surgery, I'd continue with the operation.  The chances are if you cancel it, the pain will return and you will wish that you hadn't cancelled.

When I finally got a date, I too reassessed my situation.  I wondered, maybe I could hold off as it wasn't as bad as it had been.  I think the second guessing happens to most of us.  It's natural to fear the unknown.  You'll be glad when everything is behind you.  The FHR isn't anywhere near as bad as I had expected.  In fact I was pleasantly surprised and won't hesitate when it's time to get my other hip done.

Wishing you the best on whatever you decidesmile

If you wait for a few days you may or possibly will find your pain returns. The pain vanishes because your reluctance to face the very invasive procedure you are facing takes over and you are understandably trying to avoid the reality of this surgery . If a surgeon has scheduled you for a complete hip replacement and determined you are eligible it  is because your pain and disability is moderately severe or severe. Unfortunately it will not improve with time or medication. I am really sorry because this is very difficult to accept.  Wishing you strength.
