Hi Alan, I had a hip Replacement 18 months ago and while your mobility will be quite limited for several weeks, you shouldnt experience pain. it will be difficult to put on pants and socks, wash your feet, and sleep and youll be exhausted a lot because youll have to sleep on your back. This was hard for me. Get yourself a raised toilet seat, a walker to get around, a thing from amazon that helps you put on your socks, a long handled shoe horn to put on shoes, Prepare and freeze meals ahead of time if no one is cooking for you. Most of all, remember that in a few weeks youll be so glad you did it. Im not even aware of my hip as something foreign in my body. It feels fairly natural. Im not as flexible as i used to be but at least Im no longer in pain. and i dont even limp as I did before surgery. I wish you the very best recovery. Dont worry, its really not too bad. Cecelia

Hi Alan,
Firstly i wish you all the best with your op.
I had hip surgery 12 days ago but not a full replacement as i fell and broke my hip so has metal rod and screws. I am also disabled with very limited mobility which has made recovery very difficult for me but reading other peoples posts they seem to cope quite well.
As im disabled i have found recovery difficult as can hardly walk and i cannot dress myself or anything at the moment. If you are physically fit i think you will find recovery easier than me but one thing i have noticed that this has affected me mentally whether thats because my injury was due to a fall. I have on many occasions just wanted to give up as cant see the end of this long tunnel but my Brother who had total hip replacement managed very well. It takes time and things are difficult but please dont be like me and let it affect you mentally.
I hope all goes well for you.
Mandie
