    Hi Nicole 66881,

I have hip displaysia from birth my first thr went fine never felt better fast forward 22 years later I was having pain doctor said I needed hip revision so i went ahead with the surgery Oct 24, 2013.

Ever since that hip revision I never been the same when i woke up from that surgery my left foot felt weird told my surgeon he said just give it some time . 6 months later tried to go back to work my job was manager in grocery store in the vitamin department on my feet 7 hours a day so I tried to go back to work just 4 hours a day I could barely make through the day. So back to my surgeon which ordered ct scan and then I went to the neurologist and they ordered EMG test which showed sciatic nerve damage from revision surgical site. I now have sciatic nerve damage and I was told from neurosurgeon about month ago that my sciatic nerve is not going to repair and I will have chronic pain nerve pain is the worst pain and the meds they give you have horriable side effects. Dont give up if need to see another surgeon for second opinion I would do just that my surgeon didnt want to amit his mistake. if I would of know sooner there might of be chance of repairing the nerve damage granted we do sign forms before surgery of possible nerve damage from hip surgerys . If your having pain like you describe something not right ask for emg test ct scans . I wish you the best I have lost my job and have been on disability ever since . Make sure if you need hip revision that the surgeon specializes in hip revisions I did not do that . Please let us know how your doing

    God Bless

Get another opinion, not all surgeons are brilliant as I found out 😦

If you're in the UK, I would advise getting referred to RNOH Stanmore where they specialise in sorting out difficult cases.

      Hello Rocketman,

Thank you for your reply. I do know of RNOH Stanmore as that is where my partner had his leg re-built after much trouble at a previous hospital in Northwood.

They do some wonderful reconstructions there - I was SO glad I went there to have my problems sorted out.

I,too, have been having this exact same problem.I had both hips replaced at the same time around 20 years ago and have been in excruciating pain and with a terrible limp ever since.I have had a Total Hip Revision ( done in two stages ) on my right hip around four years ago.( This was necessary due to a bone infection in the hip).My surgeon was sure that this was causing all the pain in my right hip-although,I had the same pain in BOTH hips.

In the early summer of 2016 my surgeon decided to carry out a further Total Hip Revision on my left hip, also because of another bone infection. The first stage of fitting an antibiotic spacer was then carried out and I have had this spacer in place now for almost two and a half years!Stage Two of this total Hip Revision has still not been done.I did see my surgeon in early March this year when he decided to wait for another six months or so. I now have an appointment to see my surgeon in December this year when ( hopefully ) he will decide to complete Stage Two of this procedure. I am fairly sure that an antibiotic spacer should not have been left in for so long.Usually the spacer is left in situ for around 6-9 months and then the permanent hip is fitted.

I am still in awful pain and cannot walk without a bad limp-I have to use two sticks or a walker. My surgeon thought that the bone infections were what was causing these awful pains but after having my right hip done there is no improvement.I have no choice but to have the second and final part of the revision done on my left hip as this spacer cannot last for much longer.

I do hope this reply may help you-has your surgeon tested you to make sure that there is no infection anywhere?

Sorry this is such a long post but I hope it may help you in some way.God Bless you X
