Hip replacement surgery waiting time.
Posted , 13 users are following.
I was put on the waiting list for hip surgery at the start of June 2017. I contacted the Nuffield orthopaedic hospital Oxford 6 weeks later and was told it would be likely that my surgery would not happen until the end of the year, that sounds awfully long. Does any one have information on current waiting times in this area?. Constantly being woken up with pain at night and I have to get up at 4:20 am so I get little sleep so a potential 6-7 month wait is depressing. I would be very grateful for any info on waiting times.
Regards
Stephen.

I really feel for you the pain can be really intolerable and I am assuming that the 18week period is the norm for England good luck I feel your pain and know how horrible it is

Allegedly the nhs waiting list is 18 weeks but unfortunately with so many cuts not sure how reliable that's is mine was done on nhs and my first op was within that time but it was cancelled so had to wait til my surgeon could squeeze an extra surgery in done 10 weeks ago

Hi Stephen I have been waiting 24 weeks now, had my pre assessment on the 19th April which means I now need that done again the pain I am in is unbearable I have not been out the house in 3 weeks as I'm struggling to walk. I am in Scotland not sure if any of the health boards are meeting the timescale.
Big Hugs

How horrible for you. I suggest that you get a pair of crutches to help you move around whilst waiting to have your surgery. It should greatly reduce the pain whilst you are walking, and should stop you twisting your back.
You will, and this is really important, it should help to speed and ease your recovery as you will be fitter through exercise than you would otherwise have been. You will also be really proficient with them for after the surgery!
Cheers Richard
