Hip replacement surgery waiting time.

Posted , 13 users are following.

I was put on the waiting list for hip surgery at the start of June 2017. I contacted the Nuffield orthopaedic hospital Oxford 6 weeks later and was told it would be likely that my surgery would not happen until the end of the year, that sounds awfully long. Does any one have information on current waiting times in this area?. Constantly being woken up with pain at night and I have to get up at 4:20 am so I get little sleep so a potential 6-7 month wait is depressing. I would be very grateful for any info on waiting times.

Regards

Stephen.

Are you able to go in for surgery at short notice? If so I would be inclined to give the hospital a ring and let them know you would be willing to accept a cancellation. Have you had your pre-op assessment yet?

yes I complained and was put on cancellation list 4 weeks ago but I don't feel confident.

If you have had your pre-op they say you should have surgery within twelve weeks of the pre-op or you will need another one.

Allegedly the nhs waiting list is 18 weeks but unfortunately with so many cuts not sure how reliable that's is mine was done on nhs and my first op was within that time but it was cancelled so had to wait til my surgeon could squeeze an extra surgery in done 10 weeks ago

Hi Stephen I have been waiting 24 weeks now, had my pre assessment on the 19th April which means I now need that done again the pain I am in is unbearable I have not been out the house in 3 weeks as I'm struggling to walk.  I am in Scotland not sure if any of the health boards are meeting the timescale.

      Dear Jacq

How horrible for you. I suggest that you get a pair of crutches to help you move around whilst waiting to have your surgery. It should greatly reduce the pain whilst you are walking, and should stop you twisting your back.

You will, and this is really important, it should help to speed and ease your recovery as you will be fitter through exercise than you would otherwise have been. You will also be really proficient with them for after the surgery!

      Cheers Richard

Hi Richard thank you for trying to help but I having been on crutches for 7 years, I got my first hip done in 2015 and I spoke to you before telling you about needing the two surgeons to do my operation as it was so complex and you asked me to let you know how I get on once I get my date and the operation.

Ah yes of course, thanks for reminding me. I'm really sorry that you are having such a long wait and in pain for your surgery.I wish I knew what to suggest that would help you whilst you are stuck waiting.

      Very best wishes. Richard

6 months wait, that is a long time I hope your op happens soon. I had my left hip replaced 5 years ago and only waited 6 weeks.

Hi Stephen, I got my right hip replaced in 2015 and I only waited about 6 weeks then so never thought I would be still waiting all this time
