Hey all pre-admission today and I cried all the way through almost!! Embarrassed much! Terror is a word I would use to describe how I am feeling. The operation is scheduled for 5th December early am and I am having thoughts of backing out trying to convince myself I am doing ok.
So I am also having a bone graft with mesh.....not the kind that has proved to be problematic for women I am hoping??? : (

I was very weepy before my surgery and my doctor, at my pre-op checkup, gave me something to calm me down. It was just two pills - one for the day before surgery and one for the morning of surgery. They helped a lot. Once you get in the hospital for the surgery, everyone will take good care of you. For my first hip replacement, I had general anesthesia and after surgery I cried nearly every morning for at least a week. For the second hip replacement I made sure that I had a spinal and my recovery was a lot smoother.

It is quite natural to be emotional about the surgery. I was so nervous the first time and in denial for a year. When I came through I was talking to the nurses and waving at everyone that came in the recovery room. I felt like a huge burden had been lifted. I started to have very bad pain on other hip very bad about the 7th week after surgery. I wanted to have the other hip done as soon as possible. I am now 11 weeks post op and doing very well. I am still limping a little trying to remember to put heel down. You will be fine and you will be happy. I love not having that terrible pain, I felt horrible. I am 62 and seriously everyone who see me compliment on how beautiful I look because I carried that pain on my face. I am praying for you.

Thanks all for your replies I am thinking I will be crying every day all the way through up until the end......its out of character for me to cry in front of anyone so today was mortifying to say the least, I am not a weepy cry in front of other people person.....the nurse was amazing at pre-admission, kind and lovely but oh my goodness im feeling terrified....
I am hanging onto the replies on her to help me get through and encourage me not to back out. Thanks all x

My pre-op was great fun, there were a few of us and they explained the op etc and did ECGs, blood tests etc we had a slide show and I also talked to the anaesthetist. It was quite party like. I had mesh in my hip replacement as it was non cemented. It allows the bone to grow and adhere the prosthesis in place. I was told it was for younger people which made me feel good although they may have just been cheering me up. Anyway it seems to have worked very well.

Hi every one. I wasn't here for a while i have been little bit busy at work and with doctor.
I had my left hip replaced 2 years ago and right one 6 months ago nearly 7 months ago. Right one was done anterior approach and so fare is good. Left one give me trable. It is ok if if move
but if im resting pain started specially night time. Pain going from buttock to tight towards knees. I did see surgeon had MRI, scan an ex ray they find only bursitis. Surgeon sad nothing is tear. I had bursitis about 4 months ago and got the injection which help 10 days and pain come back. Had blood test no infection . I got some tablets for a pain and spasm wich i having also. I not so sure if i can ask for second opinion or not. Any one have some advice. I just feel something is not right. Like i sad when im on move is ok hardly any pain only some movement
But night are not pleasant. Wake up least 3 times during night. Left one was done posterior approach. Thanks for advice .

HI
As I had a 'protrusio' on both hips I had a bone graft and many layers of mesh, plastic titanium etc. That was my right hip 3 years ago and it was so fantastic that I went back to work, which involved a lot of driving, 8 weeks later. I wasn't working full time but I was so happy with the outcome.
This time, for the other hip, I told the surgeon 'I want exactly the same thing please'. Same surgeon, same anaesthetist and same procedure. I'm all set and ready for Friday.
Day 1 will be fine, days 2- 4 are a challenge as you learn how to lift the leg and use your crutches etc, then the rest will be easier and easier every day.
Keep us posted.

Thank you, good to hear, sounds similar to what is happening to me and I hope all goes well Friday!! I am having the operation Wednesday full bloods to be done Tuesday, just having pain in back near shoulder at moment which goes into left flank so thinking I probably need to inform them before the operation.....seems to not end. I did tell my surgeon about the back/flank discomfort who dismissed it, I even told my Doctor who got me to lift my arms and said all good....not sure what that proved.....it comes and goes so not sure if it will impact the operation.....hmmm oh well. Great to hear how you are really encouraging thank you. Did you have a spinal block??
