Holiday

Thinking of going on holiday in about 8 weeks will be ten weeks post op. Do you think I will be up to it. More my suitcase I'm worried about I know won't be lifting but can push it as it has wheels! Also has anyone been holiday when on sick leave not sure how it works?

    Hi Donna,

I am having an abdominal hysterectomy on April 7th and I have a holiday booked at the end of June which is just over 11 weeks after. The holiday was booked before I knew about the op and I think it is something to focus on with my recovery.I am covered  on my insurance but I just have got to let the know when invade had the op.I will get someone else to carry my case.I am going on a coach holiday to Germany so at least I will be sitting down a lot aswell. If I am still signed off sick I will have to cancel my holiday as my work will not agree with me going away which is fair as if you are signed off sick you are not fit too work so how can you be fit to go away.

Spoke to my GP today and asking as they are happy with your recovery it's classed as recuperation so would be hard for an employer to stop you going!!!

Resting on holiday is certainly not like being at work! Unkess you are taking part in extreme sports it certainly does not compare

I would feel guilty going away if I am on sick leave especially as I have worked for them for 27 years and they have been very good to me for various reasons. We are also very short staffed at the moment.

Hi I'm going to Florence at theend of April for 3 days, I will be about 10 weeks post op.....hubby will have to be my pack horse!!!! I know that I will have to take lots of rests for coffee and cake....but I can live with that....I'm due back at work the week after so I don't feel so bad...I certainly couldn't compare my job ( I work for the NHS too!).. With having a few days away.
