Hope this will make sense!

I started on 10mg Prozac on Sept 14; upped to 20mg Oct 14, and will start on 30mg tomorrow. To be as honest as I can, I can't tell if its helping me or not. So often I just feel weird and just blah. I know there is no 'magic' pill to make you feel HAPPY... but was hoping for more than what I am feeling. Does anyone think I will see improvement on larger dose? Have any of you gone through this same thing? I will give the Prozac another full month, some say it can take up to 3 months to 'kick in' and help. Thanks for any replies.

    Hi betty,

    I'm going through the same.

Started 1 month ago with 10 mg, increased to 15 mg four days ago.

I'm feeling really low, low energy, very irritable, sleepy, I don't want to talk with anyone...

I was feeling ok with 10 mg, at least my mood swings decreased, but now that I'm on 15 mg I'm feeling the lowest. Very depressed.

I'm also wondering when I'll start feeling better. I'm increasing to 20 mg in one week.

    How are you feeling today?

Hi Anamuro, not today...really anxiety ridden this morning... but I've read from others that this can happen with Prozac...then they get past it... I started today with 30mg and will keep that up until Dr tells me to get 40mg... I am a bad one for just up and quitting! sad but...I don't want to do this again... I want to stay with this at least 4  months and see if it helps...I hope it will.

    Hi Betty

You won't feel the difference yet - its still early days for you.  These meds take a long, long time to work - months.  Don't be disheartened by that as its really, really worth the wait.  I'd been ill for 16 years and nothing helped - I was started on these meds and I thought 'just another pill' ....... within 6 months I'd recovered.  They were indeed my magic pill.

No, a larger dose doesn't necessarily mean you'll recover quicker either.  Some people find a larger dose too much and struggle with the side effects of it.  You should give your current dose a good couple of months before deciding.

    You need to just persevere.

My son also had a difficult time 2 years ago and started these meds and couldn't work for 4 months.  He took 9 months to recover completely on these meds.  He's now off them and back to his happy self again.

Magic pill ....... oh yes they certainly are for many.  They really do make you feel happy and bring your life back to normal.

Stick with it.  You won't feel anything for quite a while yet.  Many people give up too soon.

    You'll get there.

    K x
