First off, I'm not in the UK but this is the forum that keeps showing up in searches. I hope that doesn't matter.
I'm at that fat, forty, flatulent stage in my life, but I try to eat well because I'm diabetic. Starting this past Thursday - pain, like a really tight belt across my upper abdomen, the bottom of my ribcage hurts, radiates to the middle of my back and until today I've been able to lay down and make it stop some, with an addition of tylenol with codeine at night to make me sleep.
I've been drinking pure non-sweetened apple juice with a bit of apple cider vinegar in it as much as I can stand.
I am not having nausea nor diarrhea, but I'm not hungry at all really. I'm trying to eat a few things to keep my blood sugar up.
However I feel completely constipated/full. I did go last night and it was normal but very light colored. If I don't feel better by this afternoon (I woke up far too early and need to nap first) I am going to the ER to see what's happening.
Would it be bad if I took a stool softener ie: colace or a laxative?

Thanks for asking about me. I am doing so much better. I feel like a new woman already! I am going to check in with my NHS GP today just to let them know I made it back to town etc. Now that pain is no longer clouding my brain, I am feeling quite angry towards the NHS consultant. I was lucky that my husband's work provides private health care and I could put an end to my suffering - but I shouldn't have had to resort to that - and what about all the other people here that have also contributed all their lives, but if they get the wrong consultant or doctor, end up living with pain when there is NO reason for them to do so.
Sorry - afraid this is going to be my soapbox for a while.
Hope you are both doing better - keep posting updates. As for me, I am now!

No one.... Should every have to suffer that pain. If they find gallstones, take the gallbladder out right away. No "let's try this first", or wait a few months it should clam down.. Doctor to doctor, test to test, no one can make up this kind of pain. Doctors should know thoses symptoms right away and get that patient help.
Glad your feeling better
