How and Why - to come off Nitrazepam safely - The Ashton Manual

I had been on nitrazepam for 50 years and I am now 68 and am tapering off them with my GPs cooperation.  We follow the guidance set out in The Ashton Manual (see Link above) and use the tapering method of 1mg at a time every three weeks. I don't think Doctors should force  patients of off drugs but work with patients to stop taking Nitrazepam and other Bezos which should never have been used for more than 3 weeks in any case.

I decided to stop taking any Benzos  after realising  that my cognition and memory were becoming impaired. Nitrazepam and other Benzos

My GP said he would be looking at two weeks maximum to prescribe a benzo . I agree with everything you have written, I am off benzos some 12 weeks now. I wish I hadb/never taken any. They were prescribed for a neurological condition.I weaned off them at my request very slwowly due to their multiple serious side effects.
