How Can I Make The Most Of CBT And Talking Therapy?

I've been referred to high intensity CBT therapy for social anxiety by a mental health organisation. The waiting list is long but I will be having social prescribing therapy once a week too. I really want to lower my social anxiety to the point where it doesn't affect my decision making in every day life anymore. It also affects relationship and career life.

How can I make the most of the talking therapy's I'm receiving to feel better in social situations in years to come?

PS. I'm taking 100mg of Sertraline and I am (very mildly) on the spectrum.

    sometimes writing things down such as your feelings is a good way to share with your therapist.

    you could also jot down some goals that you would like to achieve during therapy. Such as feeling better , Less anxious and more confident in Social situations.

    that Way your therapist would be able to come up with some achievable steps to reach that goal or goals .

    dont hold anything back. Share as much as you can about what’s going on with your social anxiety.

    Your therapist would talk about helping you change unhelpful behaviors, thought distortions, etc. so the more you share the more your therapist can help you.

    he or a she will also talk about different coping strategies for the social anxiety.

    whatever you learn in therapy, really put that into practice when you go home. The really important part of all this is taking action!

    We can learn a lot of information but if we don’t put it into action we are not going to improve. When we put things into action that we have learned over and over again, it actually retrains the brain to make the new information a habit !!

    and that is when real change happens!there is an actual bio chemical change that occurs in the brain!

      Thank you! Very useful info on how to make most of therapy. Noticing some changes already but I'm sure the CBT will be the added treatment needed!
