Off to the doc's tomorrow to plead my case. any input / advice / help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you need to show that you're willing to change your eating habits and exercise to be on this - by loosing some initial weight and this is probably why your nurse won't give them to you

these tablets aren't perscribed to help you loose the weight then revert back to old habits, they are an aid to change those habits.

all i can suggest is you begin by eating as if you're taking the tablets, keeping your meals low fat, drinking water and plenty of it and exercising then you should see some weight loss, your nurse might then be more willing

The criteria to be on these are as follows:

    When orlistat is prescribed

Doctors are expected to follow guidelines when prescribing orlistat. These include:

    * Your BMI (Body Mass Index - see below)

must be 30 or above, or

must be 28 or above, and you have a medical condition that would benefit from losing weight (such as diabetes or high blood pressure).

    * You must lose at least 5% of your weight by three months from starting orlistat, and at least 10% of your weight by six months. If not, the orlistat should not be continued to be prescribed.

    * You must be between the ages of 18 and 75 years.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You say your BMI is 30 so not over. Also if you lose the 14lb that she is suggested you are then your BMI is going to be even lower. As above has said do a low fat diet as if you are on the tablets and see how that goes for you.

You say you have been reading the postings so you should have some idea of how the diet should go but the main rules are:

No more than 30g's of FULL fat per day.

No more than 15g's of FULL fat per sitting.

Do not buy things that have over 5g's of FULL fat per 100g's.

Drink more water, start drinking some kind of green tea. And move more.

Stick around here and we can encourage you on your journey

also please do not think these tablets are Miracles they are not.

You have to change your eating habits and life style to obtain and then retain the weight loss, nothing miraculous just sensible eating and exercise I'm afraid.

[color=blue:05ed10577d]My experience is I originally started a weight loss regime in january (I was 14st 6lbs / 92kg) and all it consisted of at that time was cutting down my portion size, trying to eat more healthly, and exercising! By July i was down to 13st 3lbs (84kg), I started putting weight back on over the summer holiday and found that i didn't have the energy anymore... At the beginning of sept, when i started the tablets i was starting to go back up again. I had been fluctuating till i got put on the tablets, i haven't been on a set of scales since, and i'm waiting till my app at the dr's on the 16th to check my weight...

    Good luck! smile[/color:05ed10577d]
