How long after referal

I have been referred to the hospital to have a pessary fitted. It’s over two weeks now since I saw the GP.  What is the usual waiting time to be seen, does any one know please?

Ison’t honestly remember how long I had to wait, probably just a few weeks.  The comforting thing is that you are obviously not seen as needing urgent attention!  It’ll all work out, keep smiling!

I did contact the my GP practice a few days ago because the online booking ref they sent me didn’t work. They checked and said that the clinic bookings weren’t open yet.  All very odd.

At my doctors practice there were 2 GPs who fitted pessaries.for me which I had between the births of my kids whilst my pelvic floor recovered and then again at the age of 50 when things got bad again and I was deciding whether to have surgery. Might depend on how experienced your GP is but mine also fitted coils, mirenas etc. Would it be worth asking if you could see a different GP at your practice if there is one?

I have had 4 fitted at the surgery by a specialist nurse, but as have had a hysterectomy, they didn’t stay in place.  I have been referred to to have a gellhorn fitted as they have to be done at the hospital so I am told.

Mm ..  sounds like things are going to be very slow for you!  Which hospital are you being referred to?  Can you ask your GP if there is a clinic you could attend at a different hospital?  Explain how anxious and uncomfortable you are.  I am afraid this lack of available appointments may be just part of the the running down of the the NHS (My husband has had no appointment offered for a minor surgery after 9 months of waiting.)

Don’t be concerned about appearing pushy, it won’t hurt to ask for what you need.  I hope things improve soon.
