I have been taking prescription nexium for a few days and still feel heartburn and pressure under sternum. How long should it take before the symptoms are relieved?

About two weeks for me for gerd.  I see you also posted in the anxiety forum.  Yes, anxiety can cause the pain too.  Many things can.  Overbreathing can, sore muscles from being tense, unusual physical movements or exercise.  I have experienced all of the above.  I also noticed this pain whenever I did a specific procedure at work where I would lean in and slouch a bit.

Try to relax that will help eat slowly ,it can take weeks even months to heal your digestive issues , Eat healthy no spicey foods  fizzy drinks alcohol coffee chocolate,  just really healthy foods and you could try eating very plain foods for a few days .
