Hello, I am in need of help. I am a 21 y/o female. I had an Ankle Reconstruction surgery & Achilles' tendon lengthening on March 2 and I will be switching from a cast into a walking boot next week. Due to being on bed rest for almost a year because before recieving surgery I was also in bed rest because of my poor mobility in my ankle, so, I lost ALL the muscle I had in my right leg. It is extremely skinny and flabby, you can notice the difference between both legs. Is there any exercises I can do to help gain muscle into my leg?
Ive had my surgeon tell me that it will take up to a year or more to gain back my muscle :-(
If you have some information to help me with this issue, please let me know what I can do, Thank You veryyy much!

I found the exersizing in the warm tub of water the best. And now wear equal height shoes and feather walk with both when in wheelchair. You really have had a hard time and I hope you get some relief soon. I'm lwb now no boot. Swelling eased but have had lots of elevation. I'm going to need bum exersize have gained a fair bit of weight which is very depressing and harder to carry

I used a recumbent excercise bike on low tension and used it with my boot out. If you go see a physio therapist they will get you set on excercises to improve as you progress. Wb alone will help buil muscle. I had a similar surgery Dec 16. I'm still working on walking unaided, I just got in my shoe and I do see my calf muscle from my very slowly coming back. I still need one crutch or a cane for stability. My Pt is very good, she massages the muscles and tries to get more ROM in my ankle. You are much younger (52) is my age so my bone grafts and fusion took longer to heal. I was nwb 13 weeks.
Good luck!
Margie

Hi Margie , I found pysio very unhelpful. I'm 60 surgeon said I have very healthy bones and latest X-ray showed no sign of break. So healing well Now need to build strength and time with nerve. The wound keeps excreting and hav slight infection see dr tomorrow. But salt bathing is helping. I can't have bandages on as it hurts on nerve.
