HSP

I'm 21 and I was diagnosed with HSP 3 months ago but I probably have it the last 5 months. These posts are so interesting because like a lot of you alcohol makes mine flare up (especially wine). I was admitted to hospital with mine where they did so many tests, I had a skin biopsy carried out too! But every single one of my tests came back clear. Besides at the beginning of my hospital stay where I had blood and protein in my urine

When I went back for my follow up appointment I asked whether alcohol had anything to do with it as I clearly had my suspicions as every time I drank it appeared. But my consultant told me that alcohol is nothing to do with it. Which now, after reading all these posts I find very bizarre.

I was also told it would be fine after a few weeks but 5 months on and it still comes and goes.

Two weeks ago I was admitted to hospital again with acute tonsilitis and my HSP flared up lots which was expected as they said it's linked to throat infections.

I find the whole thing quite strange as though I know what I have, no doctor could tell me a direct cause and they told me it was very rare what I had.

Yes, most doctors have no idea about HSP and what exactly the types of causes may be or how people have the reactions.  Scanning this forum well tell you many things but you will learn there are different types and each type and person seems to responsd to treatments differently.  It seems like when you are sensitive then many things that tax your body can bring on the symptoms, like food allergy, colds, sun exposure, drinking, stress, too much physical exertion..   Basically each person needs to become their own specialist and take good notes about how their own body responds to things to bring it about and talk to doctor about different types of drugs to treat the symptoms when they get more serious.   Also see different types of doctors because it took me a long time to find one that happened to be an allergist/immunologist that new exactly what HSP was, but like all doctors, don't know what causes it, but did have good advice on what drugs such as prednisone to take which worked really well in my case.  Clears it up each time as long as I get a high enough dose to the reaction.  However, I also found what triggered mine and it was a food allergy and after I found this out it was confirmed when I accidentally ingested the food type and I've been free of it for almost 2 years now that I've been able to avoid it fully since then.  Good luck in your journey.  Let us know how we can help.  Keep learning about it.
