HSV 1

Well, the diagnosis is in! I have just received a positive HSV1 diagnosis from my doctor. My new partner has only been in my life for a month but it is the best sex ever. He was away with his parents from Australia when the OB happened so I kept it hush until I found out 100% it was a positive test. I texted him to come over and that I had some bad news regarding sexual health. Immediately he thought I was pregnant --- typical man! But I must say the stress and anxiety over thinking about telling a partner is much worse than actually telling them. He got tested straight away (blood test) which I think may not show anything? Does anybody know how blood testing works? It is such a tricky virus to fully understand.

Anyways for those of you scared to tell your partner just try being honest, non accusatory and open to their questions, because I am guessing they didn't know they had it and will feel quite terrible when they find out. I gave him a print out of what HSV1 is and all the info the doctors gave me.

Another thing that helps is having support! I contacted my mums best friend as I know she has been living with this virus for years and I asked her for advice before I told him. That helped, got all my tears out first wink

Damnnnf-ing HSV hey... no fun at all.

Hsv1 isn't that bad as hsv2 .. They say hsv 1 you get like a outbreak once a year or something like that .. It resides in the mouth and is cold sores , which he probably has or you do. It probably sounds worse than he thinks .. I don't honk you had to share that unless it was hsv2 where you would need medicine and have frequent outbreaks. But good luck to both of you

That is where the  confusion comes in for me... this OB was not a cold sore, it was on the genitals, just beneath my bikini line so I am thinking it was cased by him having a cold sore and us having oral to genital contact?

yeah, that's how genital hsv1 happens. It is less contagious and outbreaks happen less frenquently but it is still there for life so if he is negative, be careful and have him get tested another time juste to make sure.

It's nice that you have such a positive attitude about this.
