Hsv1 and 2

I was diagnosed with genital HSV1 5 years ago. My doctor told me I was probably never going to have a OB again. It was by far the worst pain ever. I couldn't even sit. I was put in captured for 10 days and symptoms were gone in about a week. However about 2 weeks ago I got the feeling of an OB. My lymph nodes felt swollen and tender. But I left it alone because according to my gyn I was probably never going to go through that again. A few days later BOOM. A few lesions on the Rhine of my vagina. I go to the doctor and test positive for having 1 and 2. I was shocked about the hsv2!

I been on valtrex for 2 weeks. The lesions went away. By my labia is still a little swollen and it's still painful. Can it still be the virus lingering around or could it be something else???? Anyone experienced this. I feel like it's been a while now. Should've been good by now. Any suggestions???

If the HSV2 was not confirmed by swab, then it may not even be HSV2 but possibly just the HSV1 again. How did they test you this second time?

They tested me with blood work.

      Hsv2 igg 3.88

      Hsv1 igg >5.00

If the test kit is HerpeSelect, as I suspect, then there's a possibility that your HSV2+ is false, caused by a cross-reaction from your definite HSV1. You can either try to find a clinic with different test kit, order a University of Washington western blot (not cheap) ... or swab the next outbreak.

Your doctor should really have swabbed you, since that is a direct and accurate test (if the lesions are new). The IgG antibody test is indirect, does not indicate location, and can be prone to cross-reactions in some cases depending on the test kit.

P.S. The higher your HSV2 score, the less likely it's false. 3-something is a medium score, so open to some doubt in the presence of pre-existing HSV1.

I really do hope the hsv2 is false. My gyn was so...... not helpful. I made an appointment at another place but I don't have an outbreak right now really just a little swollen Labia and discomfort. Thank you so much for your input!!
