HSV2 Elisa Euroimmun test positive

Hi all,

I was tested HSV2 positive on July 28th 2015 by the HSV2 Elisa Euroimmun test. (My last sexual activity was around 1 weeks before the test)

My reading was 43.5RU/ml

Less than 16 RU/ml--Negative

16 and less than 22 RU/ml--Borderline

More than 22 RU/ml--Positive

Then I did My second test on Nov 4th 2015 (Haven't had any sort of Sexual activities since the last time before the first test in July)

My reading drop to 23.9RU/ml but still a positive.

Less than 16 RU/ml--Negative

16 and less than 22 RU/ml--Borderline

More than 22 RU/ml--Positive

Then I've done my third HSV2 type 2 specific Elisa Euroimmun test on Jan 29th 2016.

Result is 54.9 RU/ml

Less than 16 RU/ml--Negative

16 and less than 22 RU/ml--Borderline

More than 22 RU/ml--Positive

I have never had any symptom of HSV2. I was told that all my results are in the false positive range. Anyone have any idea about this, is the test not suitable for me? Was told 70RU/ml is a firm positive.

Is it conclusive that I am Positive with HSV2?

On a serious note....this is no big deal and does not define you. It's as common as the cold. I've lived with it for 10 years because of a selfish jerk. With meds you'll probably never have an issue again. As far as having to tell people just remember that the right person will love you for you, this will not make a difference.

      Thank you very much.

I met a girl and told her all about it on our 3rd date, now she became my gf. I guess you are right, there are people out there love you for who you are. She said she love my honestly and thinks i am brave for telling her this. Thanks again for the reply

Exactly. It does make an honest person out of most of us and honesty and trust is #1 in a relationship.

Who said it was in the false positive range? You're only likely to have a false positive if you also have existing HSV-1 (e.g., cold sores), but my understanding is that the EuroImmun test is even more accurate than HerpeSelect and less likely to cross-react.

      Thanks for the reply.

Was told by a doctor for the false range. For my understanding anything under 3.5 for the HerpeSelect test could be a false positive same for the Eurolmmun anything under 70...but I think in my case I've done enough testes to conclude I am a positive. However I will do one more test which doesnt show any index but only positives and negatives.

Do you get cold sores? As a child? If not or if you know for a fact you are negative for HSV-1, then your HSV-2 is very unlikely to be a false positive. The only thing that can notably trip the test is HSV-1, and EuroImmun has less cross-reactivity issues than HerpeSelect as noted, so it would seem even less likely to occur.

I am not aware of any reliable blood test that is strictly positive or negative, except the western blot for hsv, but even that has an indeterminate option, just no index values.

      Thanks again.

I don't remember having any cold sore. But my elder sister had coldsore so I can assume I have it too. Also I've had an outbreak on my shoulder before which seems to be Herpes gladiatorum.

The other test that is avialable in my country is HSV2 Roche Cobas immunoassay test. Is it a good test?

Do you wrestle or play sleeveless rugby? Herpes gladiatorum isn't common amongst those who don't play rough contact sports, and I wouldn't assume you have oral hsv-1 just because your sister does! To me, your test results seem positive. Never heard of the other test. Either the western blot or try to find herpeselect or biokit in your area, although I believe euroimmun is supposedly better than at least herpeselect. You can Google yourself. There is a 2005 study that compares the two IgG tests.

No I don't play either of those sports. So I guess I just have to accept the fact that I am a positive. Since all 3 testes shown positive.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply!
