Hi. I'm not on here much, but would like to know if ppl are getting relief from Proprananol. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about a month ago. I knew my thyroid was a problem.
When I was in my late 20's, I woke to a large cyst on my thyroid gland. I was given meds to shut it down. The cyst went away and I quit taking the meds. I ran onto the receptionist from my docs office a few months later. She said she hadn't seen me in a while and didn't I know I was to take those meds for life. I guess I didn't know, but said if I had problems, I would call them. Many years later, I started having more obvious problems. Gradual weight loss, heat intolerance, a fast and irregular heartbeat and feeling rev'd up. My tests always showed it was fine. I do need to mention that I was having problems with my right foot. I had bone tumors then osteomyelitis and lost my leg last year. Throughout 13 surgeries, I was on pain killers. I quit taking them about 6 weeks ago. I believe the pain meds were masking some of my symptoms. Not having those meds, my symptoms got worse and went to my doc. I read that Proprananolworks well for hyper symptoms. I had these meds on hand and decided to take them until I could get into an Endo doc. I have to say this medication helps me so much. Plz let me know if it works for you too

Hi lori,
Exact same thing here except for the lose of the leg. I went into hyper about five years ago. With me also having lupus and problems with white blood cells, I cant take the anti thyroid medications. I have been taking the lopressor this whole time to help control the symptoms. It works for me. Yes, I have to get my thyroid removed to get rid of the hyperthyroidism and at 54 with over 4 auto immune diseases it's even more dangerous for the surgery but I'm trying hard to get healthy enough to survive the surgery. I'm allergic to iodine so I'm unable to do RAI and personaly I would never do that anyway. I'm highly sensitive to all medications, including all fruits and vegetables and most meats and almost all herbs. For me 25 mg of lopressor and a xanax at night helps control my symptoms and not doing anything that gets my heart going and keeping an ice pack with me at all times and keeping the house very cold. Lol. My poor husband has to stay bundled up all the time or he would freeze. I hope this helps. It's how I've been dealing with it for five years so far. Michele
