I am waiting on a total hysterectomy due to a 23 cm fibroid, I have had my.pre op 5 weeks ago and just wondered how long I might wait,I have today received a letter to.go and see a haemotology doctor as my hb levels are high. Do you think this will put my op behind, I'm living in limbo at the minute as I'm trying to juggle a seven year old.and working full time sad

    Hi Carlotte

Very difficult to say how long you might wait, all the hospitals are so different.  If you have a PALS attached to your hospital ask them if they can find out for you.  I contacted them and within a couple of hours they came back to me with my date, I was very impressed.

Awful isn't it with not knowing hanging over you when you are leading a very busy life.

Let us know how you get on.

    Hi Charlotte,

I will have waited a total of 16 weeks from the appointment with the consultant telling me i was to have a TAH to the op which is thursday. My pre op check was 4 weeks ago. I think the NHS has a deadline of no more than a 16-18 week wait so hopefully it wont be long for you now x

      Hi Charlotte

PALS are the Patient Advice and Liaison Service, most hospitals have them.  I was amazed how helpful they were, so worth giving them an email or phone call. You can get contact details from your Hospital's website.   Let me know how you get on.

I made a pest of myself with the consultant's secretary. I rang twice per week following the consultation in which he told me I had to have the hysterectomy. It worked, consultation in December, op, 10th Feb. It got to the point where the secretary rang me on the Monday each week lol. I stressed the need to cover at work in advance, the problems at work due to my having to have time off because of the bleeding and pain etc. etc.
