im 6 weeks post op and I went to the doctors to ask if I could have hrt and he wanted me to take an antidepressant instead as hrt has a risk of breast cancer I said no but I was wondering if anyone else has been offered it or even took it instead of hrt

I'm 48 and 11 weeks post op. I asked for hrt and got the patches no problem. I'd ask a different doctor. They told me slight risk of breast cancer but not much than someone not taking it. It helps with osteoporosis too.X

He's going to look into which hrt I can have because there's so many and he's going to ring me some when next week but I asked about herbal alternatives which he printed off but wasn't very keen on them

I asked my surgeon for a prescription before I left hospital. I even told her what I wanted. The on,y thing she said was not to use it after the age of 55. I am 49. See another doctor

I'm just going to wait and see when he rings next week because he knows I won't take the antidepressants or I might try a herbal alternative

I am sooo glad that I was not the only one to be told this by my Doctor. In fact he told me to go to the health food shop!!!!!

And I told him what I thought of him....

I wouldn't have minded if he had said that but I didn't like the idea of antidepressants

On a better note. I have been taking 2 x 1000 mg's of Evening primrose oil per day & also 1 menopause tablet that you can get in any supermarket.

It worked for me within 10 days.

However, I do have to say that the first two weeks I went to hell & back. My partner hid everything in the kitchen that was sharp!!!

I will say that I am 59 and felt that having 2 menopause's in one life time was a bit OTT!!!

I do so wish you well & there is life after 8 weeks. I am now back at work.

Iam post 18 weeks and started hrt tablets one lot made me feel down and the other one made me my fingers swell up so I stop taking them and then I asked for antidepressants 40 mg but I just needed a quick fix because my moods was so low and was crying for nothing and felt like ending it all. But I was thinking of starting hrt patches ? Can anyone recommend any? I do take herble tablets for hot flushes. Xx
