I am on my second course of fluoxetine - i started it last autumn following an acute episode of anxiety depression caused by workplace stress and burnout. It is probabaly the toughest thing I have ever had to get through and it is so difficult to explain. The constant anxiety, the insomnia and the fear that thing will never go away. It did go away however, and life was great. So, I stopped taking the fluoxetine 5 months after starting..... bad idea.... 8 weeks later I found myself in exactly the same position. This time around it is easier as I do know that the anxiety will go away and that I will start to sleep again without having to rely on tablets ..........I am in week 5 now, so am just trying to push on through until the symptoms recede.

My advice, don't stop taking them until advised by your GP. I will take them forever if that is what is required to keep me well!!

Has anyone else had similar experiences ?

    Hi

I am on my second time too last time 6 years ago, i st5arted these tablets again 5 weeks ago got over the headaches and nervy feelings are wearing off, it does go away in time and i know after my previous experience that i wont be in a rush to stop taking them, even if you feel on top of the world its hard to stop - i was so worried my symptoms would come back, i too would rather take these tablets to 'feel normal' than go back to the hell ive had in my head! keep pushing through as i have hung on and it does get better, my gp told me this time that its common for symptoms to reappear and that its common people go back on fluoxitine a second time?? well its working for me!

next time you stop take 1 every other day and decrease the dose gradually, its not so hard then

    good luck:lol:

I have been taking 20mg fluoxetine since last autumn and have finished my counciling 3 weeks ago. I now feel equiped to deal with anything and have stopped taking the 20mg for 3 days, without my doctors knowing. So far so good I so want to get of it because of the awful sweats. How long will it take for the residual to quit my system. Does anyone know?

    Kind Regards

In my experience it will take as long to clear your system as it did to start working effectively ..... so if it took 6 weeks to kick in properly, it will take 6 weeks to clear.....

Hope this helps ... and good luck!:o

Hi, I have been taking Oxactin for over 2 years. I too stoped them because I felt better Wrong move! I felt awful and had to double my dosage. The only side effect I have is not being able to shift any weight. But please don't come off the tablets without your your doctor helping you as the symptoms will come back.
