Hello! If you have negative blood test on hsv2 (IgG negative) and you don't have any problems ( outbreaks or tingle) herpes - you can be calm.

thanks andrey...I keep up with the blood tests,,,thank god for them..When I found out about hsv2 14 years ago, doctor at that time say no way to test for hsv2 other than swab outbreak.not to waste

time on blood test..so I never went back to doctors because I didn't have outbreak.

fast forward 14 years I was still getting that story from a so called std clinc in a hospital..I had read on the internet about the igg test but thought it a myth until I started going to doctors and they tell me of this new blood test..so many wasted years!!!

apparently it has been on the market since 1999

Hi Jane73073, I unfortuntately dont agree with andrey .... Whilst it is true that the blood tests are the most specific/sensitive test, they are not 100% by any means. They basically test for antibodies to the virus, but sometimes HSV positive people who have never had an outbreak have undetectable antibody levels. The only way to 100% ascertain whether you ahve it or not is to swab an active outbreak. My boyfriend has never had an outbreak, and all tests have come back negative, yet we both know he has it because that is how I got it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news! However, the fact that you have not had an outbreak in so long is a good thing - this lowers your chance of ever having one and of passing it on

hi sw12345..thanks for your response i appreciate any feedback.. how do you know for sure your boyfriend has hsv2, if he has tested negative with no outbreaks??  how often and how far apart were his blood tests done. did you test negative before becoming intimate with him?.I have contacted numerous organisations and pathology lab technicians and have explained my situation and all say that after 5 negative blood test spaced out over 1 year and a half that I could confidently let go of the worry.

i would be interested to know if undectable antibodies is the norm or a rare occurence.

I have believed I was a asymptomatic carrier of hsv2.. I know i am positive for hsv1. I have not had a oral cold sore for about 20years now my immune system has suppressed the virus and it has gone dormant. i wonder if the theory of having hsv1 antibodies does some how help in giving immunity from hsv2/1 genitaly.??

The more I read  the more sure i am that these blood tests are a very useful tool as long as you give your body enough time to produce antibodies. If the belief that these blood tests are not fullproof then we can assume that anyone who has had sex is positive for hsv2.

then we all be in the same boatlol No STIGMA YAY!!

i also read and hear that no blood test is ever 100% accurate for lots of things , example, paternity tests . Just like condoms only offer 97% protectiveness not just for hsv2 but pregnancy as well.

thanks again for taking the time to respond to my post .. I do appreciate your feedback and comments...all the best.. jane
