hello Jennifer, the early days of Fluoxetine are the worst days for sure, and may well make you think your anxiety is worse, but in actual fact because it usually takes roughly 8 to 12 weeks for Fluoxetine to be working at its best its just a frustrating illusion. Its a long slow process and these first few weeks will or can be hell, but the end result is so worth it when you get there you will wonder what all the fuss was about! Easier said than done but try to stay strong, keep distracting yourself with music, television, going for a nice walk, chatting with family and friends so that your day is quite occupied and hopefully you will get a decent nights sleep at the end of it. There are several nice ladies who post on here with great advice both from personal points of view and sometimes from watching their children go through exactly what you are going through Jennifer, so you will never be entirely alone cheesygrin good luck and best wishes for your recovery smile x

I was feeling exactly the same as you and yes it is a horrible feeling I would wake up in the morning full of dread for no reason and even the slightest thing would send me into a tailspin the smallest of issues would become massive and I was physically ill with it.

It is the hardest thing to describe to anyone who has not felt the same way but I am now 6 weeks in (20mg a day + zoplicone at night) and I am definitely starting to to feel the benefits. I wanted a quick fix (as everyone does) and wondered many times if it was worth it and now I can honestly say Im glad I stuck with it. Patient really is a virtue when it comes to Prozac and the road to recovery, what you are feeling is part of that journey.

You WILL come out the other side although it probably doesn't feel that way right now.

Yes I have dreadful anxiety and why Im on Prozac, I didn't have anything else to help with it as even the thought of going to the Dr would see me throwing up with cold flushes (cold not hot) I have really just battled it out to get to this stage. You really must stick with it. It isn't a quick process but you are already over 3 weeks in please trust me when I say this it does get better, although right now you probably don't think it will.

I have been on xanax before and it has a job but only as a short term solution.....you will be perfectly fine once the meds start to take effect and will probably find you don't need the xanax as much.

I have been where you are, you will start to feel better it just takes some time be strong smile

    Hi jennifer

Sorry to hear you're going through this, it can be hell :-( its quite likely it is just the timing, I felt worse for quite a while before I got better - in fact I didn't believe I'd ever be well again. At 6-8wks I felt quite a lot better, just still quite low but not as anxious. Now 4 mnths on ive been feeling great, back to my old self.

Google timetable for recovery on fluoxetine, someone has set out a rough timetable of what to expect which helped me understand what I was facing. The only other thing I took was propanalol at times when I got the shakes bad so cant comment on the rest.

It can be a long road with lots ups and downs but it can and will get better, it just takes time and staying power. Are you doing everything to help as well, bvit and fish oil supplements, exercise at least 20 mins a day best outdoors (lowers the adrenaline levels which affect anxiety), rest when you need to and be good to yourself,,dont expect too much too quickly. Accept that you'll get bad days/times and try not to worry about them- they will pass.

Hope things start to get better for you soon.

    Take care n good luck
