[b:debe88c5c4]I HAVE BEEN ON TIBOLONE FOR OVER 25YRS I AM 78 YRS OLD AND I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD BY A STAND IN DOCTOR THAT I SHOULD HAVE COME OFF TIBOLONE YEARS AGO, AS IT CAN CAUSE STROKES IN OLDER WOMEN. HOW COULD MY OWN DOCTOR HAVE PRESCRIBED ME THESE TABLETS ALL THESE YEARS WITHOUT FINDING OUT ABOUT THE LONG TERM PROBLEMS? SURELY THAT IS HIS JOB, IT IS ONLY BECAUSE THIS STAND- IN DOCTOR WAS CALLED IN FOR A VERY BAD THROAT INFECTION THAT THIS DOCTOR WENT THROUGH MY MEDICATION AND ASKED HOW LONG I HAD BEEN ON TIBOLONE AND OTHER MEDICATIONS . AND WAS AMAZED TO FIND HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN ON TIBOLONE. I NOW DONT KNOW IF I CAN JUST COME OFF THEM AND WHAT WILL BE THE RESULTS OF COMING OFF THEM WILL BE, I AM PETRIFIED[/b:debe88c5c4]

For years I was on full HRT and when I decided to come off that I suffered badly with dryness and hot sweats so I tried every 'natural' therapy and cream I could find (and spent heaps) but none worked. My male doctor had no sympathy but could give me no relief so finally I changed to a female doctor and she prescribed Livial. At the time I was told I could stay on it indefintely but health 'experts' have now altered their thoughts and a new doctor was hesitant because he said I had been on the drug too long. I went off it and felt dreadful. I have moved on to a female doctor who always voices her opinion on my wellness, and she has discussed the pros and cons with me and actually agrees that it is a matter of individual choice and 'quality of life' as one ages.
So many of my friends have major health problems and they have never been on Livial - so I am taking my chances, staying on Livial and just keeping up with regular health checks.

I am 72 and did exactly what you have done - tried to get off Tibolone/Livial. This was because of warnings by male doctors I had. Like you, I halved the tabs at first and then took them alternate days and eventually took myself right off them - several times over the years. Night sweats and hot flushes came back as I was doing this but each time I persevered for a few months, once for two years. I spent many hundreds of dollars on so-called natural products to no avail. But when the dryness and sagging hit as well, and I couldn't seem to do anyhing about that, I went back on Tibolone/Livial - each time with a sympathetic woman doctor. Each time I felt so much better. Now I have decided I will continue to take them for the rest of my life.
I too am active and fashionable and happy to be alive and I think quality of life at our age is very important. So many of my friends have
aged more quickly and I believe that is because oestrogen has left their bodies. Many women our age and over have strokes and have never taken HRT.
I now believe some women need oestrogen more than others, and I have accepted that I am one of them.
