ive been bouncing around medications and im feel sick with dwpression and anxiety. i was on celexa 30mg than went to 225mg of effexor which helped a good amount but it gave me heartburn so i asked to be on something else so the doctor gave me 3 weeks of pristiq. turns out im not covered for that drug so he recommended zoloft. tried 50mg for 10 days didnt help so i upped the dose to 100 mg and no help! is 100mg of zoloft low compared to effexor at 225mg? ive been feeling terrible bouncing around medication i need some help

Hello Dave
I'm no expert but it sounds to me that with all the swapping meds and dosages you are having withdrawal and start up effects that sometimes go on for weeks or even months. It happened to me when I was yoyo'ing with my citalopram dose. I think I would stick with one med at a dose which you can deal with. Sometimes it's best to start at the lower dose because quite often a high dose isn't always necessary and may take longer to get used to.

Hi dave ,im so sorry to hear of such chaos your poor brain has endured . Switching so many brain alternating meds is not safe . Im not trying to scare you but your brain probably is so confused in how to function or react . If nothing has worked yet chances are they wont . If you would rather wean yourself off these and go natural here is what you get to help your anxiety and brain chemical function strength ... All of these you can buy at your local drug store . First get Gaba , this is great for calming over activity in your brain like anxiety /panic . Gaba is already a part of the brains fluids but giving it a boost will help you calm , so as Serotonin and Melatonin , these are brain chemicals already part if your brain chemistry , by balancing the brain chemicals will help your whole body ,along with 5,000 iu D3 a day ... D3 is vital to every part if your bodies function especially the brain . Taking these natural builders will let you get the much needed sleep so your body can start healing itself while you sleep as a normal production ... It is a good idea to get your vitamin D levels checked ,as low levels ( deficiency ) cab be the cause of your anxiety

ty for the replies. i guess im going to keep trying zoloft a bit longer ive been on it 3 weeks. i assumed that since i was on effexor transitioning to zoloft wouldnt be to bad. im just wondering if 100mg of zoloft is enough since i was on 225mg of effexor? maybe im getting to low of a dose of zoloft? ive been wanting to get a prescription of ativan to help out with this rough time until i get an antidepressant thats working. but im afraid ill get hooked on ativan because it can be addictive

honestly a lot of meds, even anti depressants need to be tapered off of,my son has been on med after med,he has lost his personality, and at times is suicidal,my doc wants me to be on an antidepressant I have anxiety,he wants to take me off my anxiety med. Every med has a side affect. Good luck.

Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear that you are struggling. i am going through exactly the same thing at the moment so I know how you feel!
There are some papers online that compare equivalent doses of antidepressants. One paper says that 100mg sertraline is equivalent to about 150mg venlafaxine.
hope you start to feel better soon

i too have been the same with medications. 3 since May! similar to yours. 100mg of celexa is less than225mg of Effexor.
i only know them as citalopram and venlafaxine.
you can get given stronger proper stuff for your heartburn if venlafaxine was the one that helped you?

... SORRY TYPO
I meant to say 100 mg of Zoloft is less than 225 of effexor. you can go up to 200mg on zoloft.

Hi, Dave. Effexor is a beast to get off of because it has a very short half life, and your brain really does get a shock unless you taper down in doses. Also, its a SNRI, and with the Zoloft you are switching to an SSRI so a different class of drug. Do you have a psychiatrist, or is this being prescribed by a general doctor? I think they should be supporting you a bit more at this time. Please give them a call, if you can.
