I'm so scared.. Please help

About 15 days ago I went to see my doctor due to discomfort and a burning sensation around my anus. I had blood tests which came back normal and she said she could see no sign of anything wrong.

5 days later the discomfort was still there and a small lump appeared. I have always suffered from haemorrhoids and the pain felt similar but on inspection it looked different to what I'd had in the past. I saw a second doctor who said she would say its a haemorrhoid but not 100% sure. I have had no bleeding at all.

It has been 9 days since that last appointment and the lump is still there as is the discomfort, burning, stinging and intermittent itching. The skin on the anus (the bumhole part) looks red.

I am beside myself with worry, I suffer from health anxiety and have contacted my doctor again this morning, waiting for a call.

My question is has anyone else suffered a haemorrhoid that has lasted this long with the pain and discomfort as well as then lump? Previous ones I've had have only ever lasted 3-5 days. Also it feels worse again today than it has in the last 2 days.

Please help, I am so scared.

    Hi,

Sounds very familiar! I've had the burning mainly after a BM but also late evening, coincidence or psychological I'm not sure but come 8/9pm it starts. Hemorroids can last months and produce a lot or blood. The itching is another slam dunk sign. I also get tightness/tugging and pressure which can make it unbareable to sit.

Whatever this is hasn't bled. Not sure if that is a good sign or not

Can they be there for months and be painful all that time too?

    Hi Elmo

Hope you have had some relief or answers for your problems

I have been in pain / discomfort for 6+ months

Ive had sigmoidoscopy, banding, blood tests and phenol injections.

Have seen 2 specialist and neither has helped me

Was told had fissure (give compound cream and told resolved)

Also told had 2 internal hems that were banded

Then told i developed thrombosed hem and it will clear on its own This lump/bulging has never resolved. Doc says he cant see anything that would cause me pain i describe (burning, rawness, feeling something in my butt, and at times visible lump/swelling) Would never even believe me unless i showed him a photo which he said it looked like thromb hem but on examination couldnt see or feel. Even suggested i am over sensitized despite photos showing a lump. His suggestion was pain management!

Things get worse when I walk around. Havent been able to do anything for 4 months

Managing with daily lignocaine gel, minimal activity and pain meds when its really bad.

I really need a third opinion. Stupid Covid restrictions are not helping the situation as some specialists only doing telehealth which is useless.

Good luck. Hope you have more success than me.

I am so sorry to hear you are in so much pain. How are you doing now?

I was also told I'm over sensitised, I think because I have health anxiety they find it easy to brush me off. The lump is still there, have tried steroid suppositories but made no difference. Do you have a pic of yours?
