Getting even more nervous now, less than 2 weeks to go until my hysto and anterior repair. Did anyone have anymore done than they were told they were having? I have a grade 1 rectocele that is starting to give me a bit of trouble. Will my surgeon repair it at the same time if he finds I need it fixing? I'd hate to go through another long recovery. Has this happened to anyone? My op is being done at a private hospital but through the NHS. I'm wondering if I should send an email to the hospital about my concerns.

If you are having real problems I can't see they'd make you wait as long as me. I think mine is being done very quickly considering my symptoms are not hugely impacting my day to day life. I hope it goes well for you. I'd like to hear how you get on x

Please keep posting to let us know how you get on. A friend of mine had hers last week and is doing really well. So hopefully ours will be successful too.
Good Luck

I explain.. I first saw my GP about my prolapse after it was so bad it was resting and bulging out either side of the thin piece of skin that was had become my perineium , it was badly scarred and stretched like an old rubber band my specialist finally described it. As I had bladder control problems I assumed it was a front prolapse. My GP got me to lay down the examine me with a spectulum and said the prolapse was really mild just a slight bulge in my front bladder area and that she thought working with a physio could help , improve things with bladder control if not fix my bladder leakage issues. I had no control really. It hurt and I mean really hurt couldn't walk proerly for days. She prescribed some oestrogen cream to try and soften and put some elasticity into the perineium area and stop the pain. Sex was unabearable. The joys of menopause it was explained had caused the skin in this area to thin, dry out, giving the skin no ability to stretch. I tried for 6 months as didn't want surgery and they said it wasn't a true prolapse. But I could feel it and my marraige and nerves were suffering due to all pain. I went back to my gp told her she couldn't examine me again too painful and demanded a referal to a urogyno. He was ok and after examining me - thankfully without a spectulum after he saw how sore I was down there. He too said he would not touch the bladder area to preform a cystocelle repair unless it was quite a bad prolapse and he too agreed it was mild. My work with the physio on my kegal muscles was quite successful and I found I could go longer without having to run to the tiolet. I could also hold my pee after I got the first signal to go without leaking enableing me to get to the tiolet in time in most cases. A huge improvement as before when I got the first signal it would leak even as I ran to the tiolet and couldn't go out for any period over an hour as I couldn't trust myself to not need to go and leak etc. Of course the leakage just meant I had to wear incontinence pads and they just made the area even more sore. I was now able to not wear the pads , go for a good walk and not worry too much about my bladder. The physio hadn't fully worked and I learnt the your muscles down there are more complex than you think. The physio was starting to work on strengthening my ability to shut off or control the flow as she called it. If I ignored the first warning and my bladder became too full then the muscles failed and not only did i leak I flooded, very embarassing. The strengthening treatment worked by indentifying that I was working the correct kegals and working them correctly. But it involved placing electrodes down there and it was too painful to do. My physio couldn't believe how I was suffering and in pain and discomfort a lot of the time. She said I would need to get my perineum repaired before she could even attempt this treatment and urged me to go back to my urogyno and request the surgery. This I did and had an operation date for 18th Feb. After he agreed to the surgery he also added that there was no guarantee it would be any less painful or that sex would be any better afterwards. But I had had enough it was both emotionally and physically draining. This was the beginning of Dec. I was going privately as my operation was classed as not serious enough to go on our public hospital system here and could have had it done before xmas, but glad I didn't because I had a holiday booked early Jan and then my boss had one when I got back so it had to be early Feb. Any way I am drfiting off my resaon to reply to you. Becasue my surgery was delayed I decided to research if what my urogyno had suggested was right. After all what was the point in going through the surgery if it wasn't going to fix my pain and sex issues and that is when I came across this wonderful forum. Don't worry about swamping it with questions. This forum and its supporters will help you if we can. I had questions regarding pre operation preaparation and shaving etc and recovery times etc. They were all answered but I got mixed responses on the shaving etc and recovery times and some wonderful person suggested I just go back armed with all my questions and ask the hospital. They were useless told me it was up to my urogyno and so I called he was great but suggested I come to see him armed with all my concerns. He went through them and this is the part you will be interested in, when I mentioned the bladder still wasn't 100% and he said he could have a proper look once it was opened up and that I could rest assured that whilst they had me opened up they would fix any issues they saw even if minor. That put my mind at ease. After my surgery my urogyno came to see me . I have a low resting heart rate and had trouble coming around after surgery which was only an hour. He put his hand on my shoulder and apologised . He said he should have examined me standing up because he didn't see my posterior prolapse and vaginal wall collapse which would have been causing me so much discomfort. He explained that often because of the spectulum and being examined laying down it wasn't always possible to see how things really are down there. But once they open you up they can sort things out. So I ended up having a posterior prolapse repair with some vaginal wall removal and perinium repair it seemed both the Urogyno and my GP were right I didn't have a front prolapse, what I could feel was the vagina wall desending and my posterior prolapse which was falling out either side of my perineum. Bottom line they cant always see the full picture until they open you up. But for my piece of mind I am so glad I found this forum but also that I spent the extra $200 going back for an extended visit to my urogyno and got the reassurance I needed. I would really suggest you do too. Just ask what have you got to loose. So guess answer to your question is yes i sure did. But glad I did. Too early to tell if all worth it yet, but can't be worst than it was before and will definately be starting back at physio after my urogyno gives me ok to do so about 8 weeks post op. Good luck with it all and sorry for long post .. Hope this helps

One week Thursday. My boyfriend is getting sick of me talking about it. I finally told him I was having a repair, i'd only said I was having the hysterectomy. He's a bit of an old fashioned chap, burly builder who never shows his feelings so I didn't want to tell him. Surprisingly he was really good about it and said it was nothing to be embarrassed about. We've only been together a year and it's been very rocky. I've nearly ended it several times recently because I didn't want any stress during my recovery, but he's a good guy apart from being emotionally retarded. Hopefully this situation will bring us closer.
Forgive me if I repeat anything on here, i have a terrible memory!
I just can't wait to get rid of my uterus, It's just hanging down into the back of my vagina. It gets in the way during sex. I know for certain the only reason it's not near the entrance is because of my pelvic floor muscles. I'm trying to put the details of the op out of my head and just focus on everything being more normal down there one day, but it's hard.
So good to talk about this stuff, it really helps! x

Whenever I have a general anesthetic I don't have a bowel motion for at least 5 days. Not because I have constipation but because I just don't need to go, it was the same after I had my kids. I will take your advice though, it can't hurt can it so I'll start taking something on Monday. x
