Hello its night time right now for me, and my acid reflux is KILLING ME. I am currently on Protonix (I take it in the morning) for the past 3 days.  I took 2 pills of Zantac 75 (not at the same time) two hours ago and I am still getting acid reflux. I am seriously about to go out and get some Gaviscon would it be a good or bad idea?? My doctor told me if I don't like the PPIs I could try Gaviscon

i have never heard of Protonix ( are you in the US?) but a few months of ES Omeprazole completely got rid of my heart burn after a couple of years of agony so I very much sympathise with you. However, I still get the post nasal symptoms, white tongue, gluey mouth etc. But the ES Omeprazole is great for heart burn. Good luck xx

Protonix is the US name for pantoprazole (sometimes found under the trade name Protium in UK).

All PPIs are as effective as each other but some patients tolerate one more than another for some reason.

The different PPIs, relative doses and costs (both UK and US) may be found on the "Drugs" page from the drop-down menu of the "Treatment" tab on the www BarrettsWessex org uk website.

It's a good idea to get some Gaviscon and use it together with your PPI. I worked in a Pharmacy and also was told to take both together by my doctor. Please give your PPI a chance to work. In my case it took a couple of months before it reduced my acid.  Then if you are still experiencing problems, ask your GP for a stronger one, but don't give them op too soon. x

Thanks Giblet! I think we are on the same boat haha. My PPIs now work and my heartburn is completely gone, but I still feel the reflux (aka. the mucus and sore throat). Any tips on how to relieve those symptoms?

No Lewis, I have no suggestions for the other symptoms, wish I had as I get the same.  The constant post nasal drip drives me mad and I clear my throat so much it gets sore. Also still get the reflux and very occasionally get heartburn but not like I used to.  My doctor gave me a sea water nasal spray on prescription as I don't pay for mine. It made no difference what so ever. The steroid nasal spray worked but gave me oral thrush so one way and another, we are stuffed....literally. Just have to suffer it I guess.

Nope I am not in the US I thought protonix was just a short for for pantoprazole haha. I took the Gaviscon before sleeping with the bed elevated and I woke up feeling blessed! I am only going to take the Gaviscon whenever I get flareups, and keep taking my pantoprazole. Thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it! I will keep you guys updated smile

P.S. I have been watching my diet since my acid reflux started which consists mostly of lean meat, water, veges (no garlic or onion), rice, white bread, porridge. Sad thing is started bulking a month ago and I'm losing most of my progress cause all I can do is mild cardio. I'm going to be skinny as a stick!
