i-phone Step counting in recovery - feedback

Hi All,

as some of you know I've been using my step counting on my phone to track progress in recovery.

In first weeks, post op, I struggled to reach 1,000 steps a day. Now, at six months, I've set my target at 6,000 steps daily, and tho some days are about 2,500 steps, I reach this target most days now. I look at the step count about 8pm, and walk the cat round the block if i'm say 1,000 short of 6K steps!

Have been stating on the Elmley Nature Reserve in Kent last couple of days, watching marsh harriers, etc,  and did 8K steps one day, and 16K steps the other - something I could never have done six months ago!

    Hi Mic,

I am aware that I am walking more and more without any pain but I don't count my steps...I coudn't walk for more than 30 yards before the op, now I walk normally, same speed as my husband, for miles...The difference is amazing!

    Best wishes

I think counting steps as well as or instead of distance makes a great deal of sense. I counted the number between where I park the car and the lab, 550, plus all the tooing and froing as I work. Soon mounts up and then I don't feel so bad if I do not actually walk somewhere for a day or so

      Hi Maggie

sounds good. Those 550 steps would have been really hard some months ago I guess!

    Hi mic,

I don't have an app for this on my phone but will get one when I get properly on my feet (I'm only using one crutch in the house now but can potter in the kitchen without even 1) but I'm far from ready to be counting steps. It'll be a real boost though once I get properly mobile and strive to beat my best every day that passes. It's amazing what you can get on your phone these days!

You are doing amazingly well, it's inspiring to the rest of us.

How did your hip feel after 16k?

My groin hurts a little at 11k. Especially it'd I do that much everyday.

      Hi Ginger!

I felt just fine thank you! Also did 18K one day last month!

Still slow/awkward crouching or getting down/up from floor.

      Today is 5K day!

      All good wishes
