I shall be 80 in 2 years time, when I was awarded my benefits, the system was completely different.

I had to retire from work in 1987 due to an injured spine (long story), it was classed as an industrial injury. Because my accident had happened at work, eventually I was classed as 20% disabled. I had paid National Insurance in my own right, ignoring colleagues advising that I could claim from my husband's contributions, I am so glad that I did. I was awarded Incapacity Benefit, full mobility allowance, related earnings allowance and the bottom rate of Disability Allowance on top of this Depression. The time passes so quickly I thought I would ask Denise, since my retirement, I have been diagnosed with porphyria, discoid lupus, osteoporosis, spondylitis, COPD. I am just wondering what will happen to my allowances if and when I do reach the age of 80 years old. I should be grateful for any information available please.

Gosh Mary you have a lot to be dealing with. I was not aware that things change with the benefits on reaching the grand age of 80, I guess it depends on your circumstances if you have to go into a nursing home I guess payment may go direct to the nursing home, I really don't know what would happen.
If you are in UK give the British Lung Foundation helpline a call see what they say.
Do let us know what you find out.
Best wishes V

@Vee2 Hi Vee, thank you for your message, I never thought of contacting the Lung Foundation, I shall do that. I dread the thought of going into a nursing home, so does my husband who is 82 years old. We may be a bit doddery LOL, but so far we have all our buttons on, in fact, our son's partner says "we are as sharp as tacks". My husband has mild COPD too, growing old isn't for cissies. Thanks again and lets keep in t ouch.
