On Dec 6, my R leg (starting with sciatic nerve on down) starting just barely acting up...including the knee. By 3 days later by knee was hurting SO SO much...I tried some exercises (need to be more faithful I guess) and had a chiropractic treatment yesterday, the 13th expecting it to work miracles but it didn't. (helped sciatica 8 yrs ago) I hurts mostly when I walk, so badly I want to cry sometimes. I would rather not see a Dr if its 'just' sciatica (I know, probably asking for a lecture here ) Anyway, has anyone had this same problem and how long did it take to get over it. What helped you? Aspercreme and otc pain relievers help some but not much. THANK YOU everyone.

Hi Betty!
I have had issues on and off with sciatica on my right side only since 1999! I was walking down the hall at school and got this EXCRUTIATING pain that shot from my waist, down my buttox to my thigh. I nearly fell! Fortunately I was near the wall and grabbed on to it. One of my co-workers ran over to me. ( I apparently gave a moan that was loud. I don't remember making a noise, but she SAID it was what caused her to run to me.)
The pain went away in a couple days, getting much less and not as sharp. A couple weeks later it returned. I bought one of those car seat massagers with heat because we were traveling to our son's NCAA Track Meet in MINNESOTA. That is a very long car trip from Ohio!!! The vibration and the heat SAVED ME! I was SO thankful I had gotten my massager, and the heat was WONDERFUL!!!
Over the years my sciatica nerve pain has gone away for months then pops back unannounced and hangs around for days, weeks, and sometimes months. SO ANNOYING!👿👹😠
Ibuprofen helps.
Walking helps.
Stretching helps.
HEATING PAD...Ahhhhhh! (THE BEST!)
In bed I lay on my left side and stretch my right leg all the way over so that I am in a spinal twist. This stretch apparently takes pressure off that inflamed nerve. I can drop off to sleep pretty well when I do this stretch!😊
Sometimes the sciatica just DISAPPEARS! I have no idea why!
I had both knees replaced in 2015. Having the two surgeries three and a half months apart was just right for me. My knees are GREAT! During the last two years my sciatica has come and gone randomly just as it had before.
IcyHot roll-on is helpful to my arthritic lower back. Sometimes I put some on my right buttox. Sometimes the IcyHot helps; sometimes it makes it feel worse.
I just keep trying things until something WORKS!!!
I probably haven't helped you much, but know that I sure can relate to your pain!
In SOLIDARITY with ya, girl!!!😊??

You can try some Voltaren Gel (RX in the US). Great topical anti-inflammatory. If you use Aspercream, get the one with the 4% Lidocaine.
"Just" sciatica is an interesting way of putting it. I've battled it for decades. Sometimes, the chiropractor fixed it in 10 seconds...other times, it would take a few weeks depending on whether the pain was caused by spine/hip misalignment or locked SI joints. One time, nothing worked. Turned out to be a bone spur at L4 literally "crushing" (doc's word) my sciatic nerve root. That took a simple decompressive laminectomy to solve in a day. It all depends on what's causing the sciatic nerve to act up.
