I started with fibromyalgia three years ago.I had to stop working as a self employed beauty therapist, due to the severity of my symptomssad. I have tried all the usual treatments i.e, massage, hydotherapy, physiotherapy and no end of tablets, all with no success. I am going to try alternative therapies now , and fingers crossed they might just do the trick. :D

My mother has had fibromyalgia for over ten years and like yourself was on loads of tablets but didnt get much relief from her pain. She has been reciving acupuncture treatment for a few months now and it has helped her alot. She also gets aromatherapy massages ever now and then with also help to relieve the tension she feels and therfore her pain is reduced. I hope you find the same results. Good Luck!! :D

I suffer from Fibromyalgia. I have tried many things over the 10 years since my diagnosis. The first thing I found that helped for a while was SAM-e. It helped with the 'brain fog' & tiredness, however it made the muscle spasm & pain worse, and further disturbed my sleep patterns. I did further research on dosage and discovered I was probably experiencing more negative effects due to too high a dose. I then decreased dose to 200mg a day. This improved things for a while, but eventually I could no longer afford to buy the drug from over sea’s. Sadly SAM-e is not available in the uk. It is expensive, and although eventually my GP agreed to give me a private prescription, that was going to be more expensive than an internet order.

I also found that taking Claratin, available over the counter, (or as NeoClaratin on prescription) I had a reduction in the severity of the daily muscular pains. This treatment was recommended by the Fibromyalgia Association. I have continued with this for two and a half years now, but it doesn't help me with the daily tiredness, and lack of clarity of brain function.

However, I recently heard a programme on radio 4 mentioning Provigil. I have just managed to acquire some and started self-administered trials. So far it seems very sucessful. I would like this drug called Modafinil in the UK to be available as a treatment for Fibromyalgia.

The other things I ought to mention for people reading this that have Fibro... I have found drinking more water has helped enormously with shoulder and knee pain, and generally with muscle pain. I have found muscle spasm at its worst during PMS times, or to the point of paralysis when I had a hormone implant coil Mirana. As soon as it was removed month after month I got better & better. I have also found I am cows dairy sensitive, and if I eat milk products it increases the tiredness to narcoleptic proportions. If I avoid all milk & milk related products then the tiredness is unpleasant but manageable, although I cannot work currently due to tiredness, hence my looking for solutions to the problem.

I hope you find a solution if you are a Fibromyalgia sufferer. I hope that something I have been through and / or written may help you find a better quality of life. Hope always, Joy.

hi i have just been diagnosed with fibromylagia,i have been in pain for 3yrs now, my arms and back are always painful,i cant lift anything heavy inc pans or pans from the oven. i cant carry shopping, if i do i will come home in excruciating agony.i get pains in my legs and hip as well. i had treatment for cancer 3 yrs ago and i wonder if this triggered this off.i am just about to start on a prescription of amitriptiline, przac and painkillers, although i am not depressed, the pain does get me down. like youself i am not sleeping well, and also wake feeling like i could go back to bed and stay there for the rest of the day. alas when you have a family you just cant do that.i sympathize with all who have this condition.

sad I have suffered with fibromyalgia for nearly 4 yrs now, when the symptons were at there worst I had 3 months off work and gradually went back to work, over a period of 6 months. I have recently started seeing a homeopath, she says she can improve my quality of life and in time relieve the symptons, but it is going to take time. I have found, the only treatment the doctor can offer is anti -depressants and I really do not want to go down that road. So if the homeopath can do what she says she can do then i am willing to give it a go. I have been seeing her now for about 3 months and my sleep pattern is much better. I have also found out that I am intolerant to gluten which she thinks is not helping the fibro.... I have found out for myself that drinking tea and coffee make me ache more. so I have stopped drinking them and only drink hot juice. When symptons are really bad I find I can not tolertate alcohol, HAve you experienced any of these? :?
