I’ve been on Prozac for just over 2 months and It’s not really helping.

They said to wait 6-8 weeks while on this befor it kicks in so i did... it worked at first I felt a lot better but now it doesn’t seem to be working and I’m so tired all the time and I’m using it as an anti depressant and for my anxiety as prescribed I take it in the afternoon that’s when my doctor told me to take it but I’ve tried explaining this to my doctor but she won’t do anything to help me and I don’t know what to do I really think it’s bringing me more harm than good.

Its different for each person.  It could be 3-4 months for one person or 1-2 months for another.  These meds take a loooooooooong time to kick in, and whilst you wait you won't see a scrap of evidence they're working.  But they are in the background.  Everyone takes their meds at different times of the day, there's no hard and fast rules when to take them - whichever suits you best.  I took mine in the morning and some people take them at night.  These meds will make you tired though, its a side effect which should wear off over time.

You can't hurry recovery, whatever you do.  Not even a higher dose will speed things up.  It'll work on your body in its own tim, and to try and hurry things will lead to disappointment, frustration and probably make you anxious.

Even recovery is slow.  Symptoms don't all suddenly stop but one by one they ease off, and don't be surprised by setbacks too.  Its all part of recovery.

It took me 6 months to recover.

Thank you for your comments katecogs it gives me hope still going dizzy and panicky and shakey  when I leave the house and even when I'm in the house I'm just trying to ride each wave as it comes a lot of my side effects have eased a little now which makes it slightly more manageable I suffered all my life with anxiety and depression this has been probably one of the worst times I have had but thank you for your support Hun x

I’ve just been reading through this thread, my situation is pretty similar.

I’m about to start week 9 on 30mg of Prozac. Going from alternating 20mg-30mg. Today I’ve been so anxious, dizzy and tired. TMJ is bad.

I have had some relief in that my anxiety did feel as though it was improving. Especially towards the evening.

      Not today.

Trying to hang in. It can only get better.!!

      Hi Graylady

I just posted this to someone else saying the same about how they feel some days they feel improvement, and then its lost the next day.

Recovery works like that - I was just calling it groundhog day lol as it feel like you go over the same things every day.  One day you build hope and feel some improvement, and the next day you again wake with early morning anxiety.  You take anxiety with you all the way through recovery, with it easing slightly bit by bit.

My days started with little glimpses of feeling normal in the evenings - that grew more into my days over months, until it reached the mornings.  Finally I started waking with no anxiety.  All this took about 6 months.  Throughout that time too I still got setbacks when some days I felt rubbish all day, but that good pattern came back.

      It does get better wink

    Hi There,

I feel exactly the same,I’ve  been on fluoxetine for 7 weeks now and feel tired all the time still, still very low mood.Have suffered badly with many side effects and I am also in 2 minds to if they are actually helping!

Please keep us posted on your progress, your not alone in this journey.

    Take care

Yes same here.  Wretching in the AM, feel like I cannot get going in the AM however as the day progresses, it gets better.

As I have stated, I am now on week 4 of 20mg dose after stopping it cold turkey in early Feb this year. From what I have read, going BACK on it after STOPPING it cold turkey is rougher than starting it in the first place.

I have Klonpin to ease the anxiety. Other things I do is drink Chamonile tea, try to get outside when it is warm out which is a big plus.

I have noted marginal improvement in my overall outlook so that is a plus however I am still jittery and wake up each AM in a bad state.  Eating is a challenge, sometimes I vomit, sometimes I don't.

katecogs has posted very good advice here and I am following her posts and trusting what her experiences are.  My advice is do the same, this is NOT a fast acting AD so improvement can often take weeks.  Nevertheless, we all must stay the course and give the meds time to work.  I wish too I would improve more quickly but it is what it is.

Thank you all for helping me out. Yesterday I had a visit with my doctor who upped my dosage from 20mg to 30mg and she said it might help my sleeping as I’m not able to fall asleep and feel really sick all the time. I’m so tired every day and I’m 15 so I have school every day and work and I’m having a really hard time getting myself up in the morning and going to school. Lately I’ve just called in sick to work and I know that’s not good. Life just seems so complicated sometimes but I hope upping my dosage helps.

Give it time sam, also see if your doc can prescribe something temporary for the anxiety.

What I have found that helps is chamonile tea and Natural Calm which is a magnesium supplement.  Also I try to walk each and every day. And eating a banana a day helps too.

Hang in there sam. Progress will come, but it will be slow.  Make sure you follow katecogs advice as she's posted some really positive stuff here that I have found to be most helpful
