I used to get BV all the time but havent had it in years. I have been under the GU clinic for recurrent thrush for the past 9 months and never has BV been picked up during this time. I knew i had symptoms because of increased discharge which was grey-ish white then i started to get intermittent abdo pains. i was reviewed by GP and sent for US Abdo - came back as normal. kept going to GU clinic and insisting they do a Pelvic examination - i said it hurt and they fobbed me off as i have PID. i have never had a STI in my life so how can i get PID. antibiotics not working making me really drowsy - suggested taking others. they are assuming its PID and dont want to help me. i have pcos but only cysts on ovaries, mild acne and lack of periods symptoms. after going Clinic i noticed the fishy smell and bought OTC metronidazole gel which has cured the discharge and smell. am i right to just go along with saying i have PID? anyone ever had BV but not shown on swabs?

I'm the same - never showed on Swabbs because o literally had NO bacreria down there - which causes the same kinda symptoms.
I get a lot of grey itchy / sore discharge - mines like chronic / reoccurring. Get it like 2/3 times a month.
What's your symptoms? Do you have chronic pain/itching? I've also been diagnosed with PID in the past ... it's the worst pain in the world. You need metronidazole antibiotics for it.
Have u been swabbed for a full sti screen?

Okay so it's not just me then. Yeah I had a full STI check and everything came back negative - they gave me a certificate because I asked for my results in writing but the certificate didn't show that they even tested me for BV or thrush. I asked them why that Is but they said they do test me but it doesn't show up on the general report - that makes me feel like did they even test me for it in the beginning?? To say I have all sorts of bacteria on my swabs but not STI in the end I think it was just BV that was causing the symptoms as BV alters your PH and it's a change in your normal bacterial flora. My symptoms were grey-ish white discharge which was itchy and felt like I kept peeing on myself, itchy, tingly feeling wouldn't say as far as painful, intermittent Abdo pains which to be honest feels as though I only get it when I've got gas or need to go toilet, slight pain when having sex but not sure if that was because my partner was going abit to hard because when he slowed down I didn't feel any pain whatsoever, and then the fishy discharge which I only noticed last week. Now after the metronidazole gel I don't really have any symptoms but I don't know about the sex part because I can't have sex whilst on the antibiotics. I'm just scared that it is PID because it will lessen my chance of having any kids as well as the PcOS.
Have you ever had recurrent PID or has it never come back since?

No once the bacteria is killed that causes the PID it shouldn't come back. Mine never. And trust me if you had PID you would deffo know, it is the worst pain I have ever felt and I could barely walk.
Is your BV reoccurring?
Hope things get better soon!

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's not PID then. I had a thought about it the other day and realised when I explained to them that the pain was intermittent, I realised the pain is only there if I need to go toilet and then for about half hour after. I have done a Dip stick test which shows negative other than proteinuria. My friend who is a nurse thinks that 100% I had BV and that I might have interstitial cystitis which can be the cause of the intermittent pain and pain when needing to urinate. I think my BV has defo come back though so I will probably get some more metronidazole gel to help.
Is there a way in preventing it coming back or as often you think?

Hope it goes well for you. Just a quick one - mycroplasma or ureaplasma could cause your symptoms - worth getting it checked.
I use Balance Active gel every night to keep it away, it's really good xxxx
