I've had this lesion/bump/sore (?) on the side of my mouth for over a year now.

I'm not quite sure what it is, exactly.. I know it can get scabby, and if I pick at it, it can get sore, but it hasn't gone away for over a year. The only reference I've gotten is from a dentist that told me it was a 'fibroma-like tissue' and needed to be removed, because I was concerned it was herpes.. but I'm not really sure about that.
