I have bad chest cramps or stinging going through to my back for 4 days now. My gp thinks it might be anxiety causing this and gave me buscopan. Can anxiety really cause all this pain. Has anyone else had this. I'm going through menopause since I was 39 years old I'm 47 now. Please help

Hi Hun yes and yes it can, I've had all the most weird symtoms caused by the anxiety that Meno causes, I never even knew at the time what it was, but after some research I was surprised what I found x

Hi Sandra.. I'm sorry you are going through this💕 Anxiety can cause so many scary feelings.. I've been through it for years.. Your discomfort could be anxiety, or it could be acid reflux or heartburn ... my mom (and husband ) have had the same thing. My mom went to her cardiologist just to make sure everything was ok..he said it was her GERD causing the burning and tightening in her chest... he told her to take two Prilosec two times a day for a week, then one a day after that. I know it's a scary feeling with the discomfort in your chest. You might could try some antacids to see if that helps. Hugs to you and I hope you feel better. 🙏💕

Hi Sandra - Would you also describe this “stinging” also like a bad sunburn? If so, I have it all the time, it is sometime on the top of my back, lower back, front of my chest, front of my calves & tops of my feet - I have had it every month since March, it travels - I am also post menopausal & I do suffer from Anxiety - I do not know if this is caused from declining hormones or amped up anxiety, but it is very nerve racking - The first time I got it, it sent me to the ER with a very expensive hospital bill...I just try to not focus on it anymore - I am not sure if you are experiencing the same thing, but mine is more like burning sensation

Hi Sandra...
Anxiety is such a monster that it will have you thinking you're dying a different death every day. I'm glad you saw your doctor; know that if it were more sinister it would have shown up.
Hugs!!

Hi , yes it can. I was told I had gerd but after a year on antacids and it not helping, I had an endoscopy done by a gastroenterologist and they found nothing. They sent me to a cardiologist and I had full work up again everything normal. The Drs told me to try yoga, put me on anti depressants since I was having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks. The anti depressant they put me on made things worse so I went back and saw a different Dr. She checked my rib cage after I told her about burning pain , tight feeling , icy hot tingling in my chest and back. Felt like a heart attack at times. Turns out I have costochondritis which she thinks was caused by the anxiety . So on anti inflammtories and a different med more for anxiety than depression now. Knowing it was my ribcage helped with anxiety a lot and new med also geared more for anxiety helped very much. Now 6 months later though not all better I can at least deal with the symptoms better and I'm much happier. Having the anxiety / panic attacks under control has really helped me a tremendous amount. I still have days where its hard but over all much more bearable than 6 months ago when I was afraid to even leave my house and my symptoms were out of control. I wonder how many other people have costochondritis due to anxiety as well?
