Hi, any help Would be appreciated smile

i have recently been to the doctors who referred me to the IBS page but I find it so confusing and it contradicts itself so many times!

every 3/4 days I seem to get really painful stomach aches And need to rush to the toilet due to diarrhoea. this can happen up to 3 times a night until the stomach aches finally disappear. Some months can go by and I wont get any problems but some weeks it happens a lot.

The pain can change a lot, during the day time I can feel my stomach almost starting the process( this may sound stupid) , it makes a lot of noises and I have to pass wind a lot. Then in the evenings it will start to get worse until I need to go to the toilet.

i have tried to stop eating certain foods and nothing has seemed to work sad I find it hard to go out a lot because I'm scared it's going to happen.

Any help or shared experiences would really help thanks

Those with abdominal pain or discomfort, and the other symptoms are mainly urgency to get to the toilet, and diarrhoea.

There are so many things that might cause it as you've probably found out. But firstly I would suggest you press your doctor to investigate this further because from your symptoms there is a possibility you may be developing Ulcerative Colitis. I speak from bitter experience having been fobbed off with "It's only ibs " for years   Yes,I do have ibs and they co exist perfectly happily, but UC is potentially more serious. In the meantime look on google for two interesting treatments for ibs. The Fodmap diet and Symprove. The first is a simple list of foods which are known to cause problems and the second a very effective probiotic which has done a lot of people (including myself) a lot of good ..I'm afraid it's a long and weary journey and a very individual one but only you can do it    Bon voyage

I understand completely your fear of going out. I suffered with excruciating pains only relieved by diarrhea over up to half an hour. By the end I was a mess and needed to rest to regain my strength. I too was afraid to go out without knowing where a toilet was because it happened a few times that an 'attack' came on and I was desperate to find a toilet...but could barely walk.

I finally learned after way too many years of this that the key is to be regular. Your bowel walls are doing their job and that is to expel the contents. We do not want fermenting, rotting food sitting around in our gut for days on end...

You want to empty your colon every morning without fail. I saw a snow once on just this subject and the gastroenterologist said that we should be producing a foot long, African stool every morning...in one fell swoop!  Why African? He said that Africans don't have any constipation problems because their diets are full of roughage...and therefore their stools are softer and very long.

You really have to be on top of this issue. The UK food pyramid recommends 6 - 10 servings of fruit/vegetables in a day. I suggest you do as I do and that is to start your day off with a lovely smoothie. Here's the recipe:

Toss strawberries or other berries, melon, apple, pear, plum, celery, carrot, spinach...ANY of these and any other fruits/veggies you feel like adding to the smoothie. To that you can add protein powder to make it a full meal. And I add almond milk because milk can exacerbate any digestive issues. Voila...breakfast!

Salads make a good lunch with added chicken or hard boiled egg. Dinner: not too much meat (like a deck of cards) and plenty of veggies, preferably colourful ones. You do not want a plate of BEIGE food.

To keep regular I take 2 - 3 magnesium tablets every night before bed with a bit of almond milk which has lots of calcium in it; great combo with the magnesiium for good absorption.

I will bet you dollars to doughnuts (North American expression) that your IBS issues are cleared up right away.

    All the best!

H Jack, just would like to share that I manage my problems with a particular quality aloe drink which make my innards work more efficiently and makes me 'regular' and less 'gurgly' (I notice the difference if I stop taking it)

Did you visit with a Gastroenterologist?  Sounds like crohn's disease.  If not, take the highest grade of probiotics from a health food store.
