IGG results, any help appreciated !

Hello,

I tested positive for genital hsv1 and hsv2 via PCR swab on 12th April 2016, which was 23 days from when I think I was exposed (20th March)

I had an IGG blood test 5 weeks after the initial exposure.

My scores are as follows:

Your type 1 scored were <0.01 and="" type="" 2="" was=""><0.50. a="" negative="" on="" our="" test="" is=""><0.9

these are the lowest scores possible for each test.

....

so this means i contracted both at the same time doesn't it? i didn't even have sex, just given oral sex and may have had brief skin to skin contact, they have never had herpes symptoms so must have been asymptomatically shedding both strains and then given them to me, correct? chances of that hey?!

am i interpreting this correctly?

or is it possible i just only have hsv2 and the hsv1 pcr is a false?

my symptoms are mild.

you cld hv had hsv 1 long before that is not such a big deal. But yes u cld have contacted hsv 2 even without sex. just contact to contact skin. one reason why a condom is not 100% safe for herpes. or via oral sex

But wouldn't it show up via my bloods if I contracted it a long time ago? Also hsv1 primary outbreaks are supposed to be more painful so wouldn't I have known?

Based on your results, your first interpretation is correct, i.e., both infections are new. Pcr swabs are very accurate and you're sure that's what you had done? If so, and if I were you, I would do the IgG test again at 4 months to see if there's an increase or change to positive, which would indicate these are new infections (don't take the meds daily during this period). If still negative, then that's mighty odd.

Wow so I really was just super unfortunate! I thought I was being safe not having sex, what a fool - I wish I had done now to at least have had some benefit from it haha!

Yeah definitely a PCR swab. I have seen on other forums that there is a chance of a false positive - a very small chance but it's still a chance. And considering how I got both virus strains we all know I'm great at achieving those minimal chances hahaha.

Okay yeah I was thinking about retesting to be sure. Do you mean 4 months from exposure or 4 months from now?

I've started another course of antivirals as I started to get pain again so shall I wait four months from the end of this course to test?

You can test at 3 months post-exposure, but since you're still negative at 5 weeks, it might be better to wait till 4 months post-exposure to give your body plenty of time to produce enough antibodies. If you are only taking the meds to treat episodes and not taking them every day continuously, then that should be fine.

It does seem odd and very unlucky to have acquired both types at the same time without much genital contact, I must say. However, pcr swabs are the gold standard for HSV swab tests, so hmmm. I guess the only thing you can do is to repeat the IgG test, and if you have symptoms again in the meantime, perhaps get them swabbed a second time to reconfirm. You had no other partner in the 1-2 weeks before you first swabbed?

Nope. I had minimal intimate contact with someone early February but we weren't naked and only used hands, there were no sores signs etc of herpes and the chances would be absolutely minimal so I don't think I need to worry about that as a potential risk.

That is all mighty strange and I'd definitely seek verification. *If* your pcr was wrong, that would be highly unusual but nothing's impossible. What symptoms did you have again that prompted you to get tested? I know they were very mild, but can't recall what you actually experienced.
