To learn about emphysema go to the British Lung Foundation webside and put in their search box emphysema.

    https://www.blf.org.uk/

Details of COPD (includes emphysema) please read patient UK Information Leaflet here:  https://patient.info/health/chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease-leaflet

Patient uk leaflet on Cor Pulmonale :  https://patient.info/doctor/cor-pulmonale

BLF helpline may be able to offer you more understanding if you give them a call.

No one can really say what life expectenancy any one has, certainly no one here.  Perhaps attend with your Dad at his next chest clinic appointment and put that question to your Dad's specialist/s if of course it would not be upsetting for your Dad to hear such a question and answer.

It will be important that your Dad avoids contact with people who are infected with a cold or the flu virus.  Advantageous to avoid smoke of any kind, eat a healthy diet with protein fresh fruit and vegetables daily, seeks advice of his doctor asap should a chest infection develop, ask his consultant or GP if PR would be suitable and if so ask about the advantages of going on this course.
