Interesting new article on Opthalmogist IOL Pick

Opthalmagist #1 pick is the PanOptics IOL. Sadly Synergy has not been out long enough to see how it would have been rated.

One can search, "review of opthalmology IOL Survey: New lenses turn surgeons’ heads"

Yeah! Then you gonna have dysphotosia for the rest of your life, but surgeons will keep talking how great these lenses are and how advanced the technology is. Am I right or am I right?

I want 100% honest transparency and then the patient can make an informed decision. There is enough known about dysphotopsias that not only should every patient be shown a simulation of what the expected results will be, but told there will be patients whose results will be worse than the typical results.

In fact I like to see a simulation showing the average then the 3 sigma standard deviation of results, so people 100% know what they are signing up for.

I will also add that every person is different. You could take me and then another person, implant the same lens and have the same amount of dysphotopsias and I might be fine with it and another person hate it.

For myself I don't do a lot of night driving, so the tradeoff is well worth it.

I think the best 2 NEW thing in development is not another IOL but:

    1. A component system where a base is installed and then the lens is add that can be relatively easily remove and replace if a patient is unhappy with the results and
    2. Continue work on the LAL where it can be changed from EDOF to Trifocal to Monofocal. Then the patient can decide which is best for them.

I'd add the Perfect Lens to that list. Most of us, if we are looking now, will already have had lens replacement before the Gemini capsule or the unlockable LAL are approved and in the market. The Perfect Lens is claiming to change most existing lenses that are already implanted; so if you have less than optimal results now, that is a technology that might provide correction without IOL exchange.

I always find these survey articles interesting. There are a lot of technologies out there - in theory, but when you look at the statistics as to what surgeons actually use, the list becomes much shorter.

it is us doctors only so it takes out zeiss, synergy and more years of experience on these technologies from european doctors.
