Has anybody not had intrusive thoughts before having this drug? My intrusive thoughts started when taking this drug, the doctor has said to come of citalopram and the thoughts should stop and they want to try me on mitazapine in a couple of weeks. Has anyone stopped taking the tablets and the thoughts have gone away? as my worry is I stop taking them and the side effects remain as the thoughts have been triggered already. I'm on day 10 and I know citalopram can highten thoughts and feelings but I wasn't having these thoughts to begin with they started on the Meds but can they cause intrusive thoughts if you didn't already have them? I'm confused as to if I should continue and push through these horrendous thoughts or if I should stop the medication. Leanne x

Hey Leanne, do you mind me asking what sort of intrusive thoughts? I ask because over the last few years I've started having disturbing thoughts and images (usually animal abuse type nature.. really awful :'( ) but never had these before - I've been taking citalopram for over 14 years.
Sending hugs x

So sorry that must be awful. I don't know whether it's a symptom but I have certainly started having disturbing thoughts, just different ones to you.

This is why I'm so eager to find out if the medication can cause them. Because if I still have them when I stop taking it I will regret not keeping up with the Meds x

I was having intrusive thoughts such as family members dying or wanting to ram another vehicle with my car. Then scared of illnesses. Then scared in my own house. Every little noise would scare me. I was scared to pick up a kitchen knife for some reason. I had these thoughts shortly before Celexa and am still having them after 6 weeks, though they aren't as bad. You should do some reading about anxiety and intrusive thoughts. They mean absolutely nothing. Our anxiety focuses on them and makes us feel bad or scared of them. But thoughts are just thoughts. They are completely made up and mean nothing about ourselves. Thoughts come before feelings. Best of luck to you. Don't take your thoughts so seriously 🍒🍉💓
