Since last November I’ve been having irregular and missed periods my longest cycle lasting 56 days and my shortest 14.
I’ve almost given up because I’ve exhausted all possibilities.
Background:
I have had regular 28 day cycles bleeding for 4-5 days since I was about 15(first period at 13) I’m now 22 so I thought this was well established.
Now I can’t say I’ve had a regular period since last year. I was diagnosed with depression last year however this is well controlled now and I’m much better. I also had an termination last March which was followed by the contraceptive injection. I didn’t get a repeat as my body doesn’t cope well with any extra hormones, I suffer from sickness and terrible anxiety/depression when on contraception which is hormone based. I was then hoping to get the copper coil but doctor said to wait until we get to the bottom of the strange periods.
Some of my symptoms include, lack of libido, discharge from one nipple and weight gain(not significant but enough for myself to notice) and more obviously the irregularity of my period.
I’ve had so many blood tests, all negative.
I’ve had an internal and external ultra sound which found small cysts but doctor said these could have been water filled. I’ve also had a breast assessment and ultrasound due to the discharge from my nipple.
My mum previously had prolactinoma which is a none cancerous tumor on the pituitary gland however my prolactin levels are normal if i can remember correctly.
I don’t know if anyone has experienced anything similar and has a diagnosis?
One doctor has actually said to me ‘oh doesn’t matter until you want to try for children’ but to me it matters. Surely something’s wrong? I’ve gone from regular periods to this.
Please help!

I knew someone who used to have the contraceptive injection because it used to stop her periods. So this maybe why your periods are messed up. This can last up to a year. When I used to be on the pill, it used to affect my libido, so I am assuming the injection may have done that too. All your symptoms are probably side effects of the injection, so don't worry too much. You are clearly very sensitive to hormones, so just avoid anything like that in the future. Check the side effects of the medication you have had and anything you are worried about, check with your doctor.
