Hi,
I’m a 19yo who has suffered with irregular and painful periods since I started them 10years ago. It has now gotten to the point where it’s getting me really down.
I have been going to my gp for 8years now about my periods and have only recently just got a referral through to see a gynaecologist but in the mean time of waiting my periods are just making me more and more upset.
I had just finished a very painful and very heavy 7day period; had 48hours where it stopped then I had sex and passed a few clots but then it stopped for around 24hours and as of tonight it has started again bright red but not too heavy.
I honestly have no idea what is wrong with them but they are getting me down in the dumps because I just want to be able to not worry about when I’m going to come on and have a normal sex life with my partner.
Any other women suffering with any similar symptoms? Diagnosed with anything?

Hi Eleanor, I had the same problem two; nearly three years ago. I had irregular periods, sometimes they would be light and last a day other times they could be so heavy I constantly leaked and lasted longer than a week. Like you I was getting so annoyed as it was causing problems in my daily life. I was referred also to a gynae and had blood tests, internal and external scans, as well as some other unpleasant procedures. They couldn't find anything serious and told me it was most probably a hormone imbalance (I also had gained so much weight out of nowhere) the doctors only option was to put me on the pill, I tried three different types out till I found one that helps me. Others caused me constant headaches, to very bad mood swings and severe depression.
The one I'm on now would most probably be a great help to you as it can actually stop you from having periods. I started this pill at the beginning of the year and I only had one small break through bleed last week. Its a pill you take continuously and is called cerelle. you would have to check with your doctor to make sure you can take it.
