irritable. is this normal?

I've finally got my date through for my hysterectomy. I'm getting surgery on the 29th April now. Since I received my letters last week I have been so irritable and emotional. It seems that the littlest things are bugging me and I am snapping at my family for the last wee thing. To be honest I am rerrified about my surgery but I know it's for the best. I'm scared about the recovery. I'm so worried about constipation as my bowel isn't the best as I had surgery on it few years back for a prolapse. Previously I have been hospitalised for constipation and it doesn't matter what I do, I just really struggle.

Is this normal to be feeling like this?

I know how you are feeling I was terrified before. Only day 10 now and slowly improving. Be prepared to be uncomfortable and take any pain meds offered. I was in hospital 5 days which at first upset me but in hindsight glad I stayed in. I suffer constipation and needed a suppository in hospital and had no problems that way since. Wind had been my problem but hopefully will hi soon. Take care I'm sure you will be ok. But don't do anything afterwards.

Hi, I'm just over 5 weeks TAH, and absolutely understand your anxieties...this is a major operation and yes the first couple of weeks are a bit rough but you do start to feel better.... I find this site a godsend, lots os people with helpful advice and feelings similar to yourself......you must be prepared to take stool softeners....I  did not have my BO for 2 weeks as I didn' t take them soon enough..... Peppermint tea is also very good and buy some big pants, there a must!!!..... Try and mobilise each day as that will also help with your constipation, and the usual re high fibre diet and plenty of fluids......your bound to feel worried and anxious that is perfectly normal...just keep talking to your family and we are also all here to help you through it x

Yes. You are probably anxious about the operation and also spending loads of time planning/organising things in preparation for the operation. I know I am. (My operation is 20 April.)   I know I am.  I feel overhelmed and exhausted, and I haven't even had the operation yet.  It doesn't help that my husband (who is to care for me during my recovery) hurt his knee and was in bed all weekend and I had to keep interrupting what I was doing to tend to him. I was a bit over snappy I think because it seemed that every time I found a few minutes to rest, he needed something. Thankfully, he is able to walk a little bit now with the aid of a walking stick. I don't know how I would manage if I had chidren.

You definitely aren't alone. My surgery will be mid June and I woke up last night almost freaking out. Writing about constipation sounds normal. I worry about that too, and not only will I have a tah but bowel prolapse fixed at the same time as well. This site helps seeing we all share the same fears and concerns. Catlady try and take it one day at a time til the

surgery if you can. Be kind to yourself and let yourself feel your

emotions. So many ladies have gone through what you're going through and what you will go through with your surgery. Take their words of

encouragement of how you will be ok and how they made it through to

    Heart. You are not alone.

    Hi Catlady

I love your name, congratulations on getting your date.  Mine is happening on Good Friday, and I have been Spring Cleaning and nesting like mad, and thought my nerves were okay, but I went to give Rosie our Shih Tzu her dinner and dropped it all over the floor.  Then went to give Hubby his pudding and dropped it in his lap!  He! he! what will I do next I ask myself!  Aren't nerves a terrible thing?  And I think my body has gone into recovery without the op, because I am acting like I cannot bend down, or I keep thinking don't pick that up!  Crazy what tricks the mind plays on you! rolleyes

I know what you mean worrying about the bowel behaving.  I am having my bowel and bladder stitched back in place as well as a cystocele.  My bowel does tend to play up when messed about with.  I am going in armed with Movicol, I usually have one a day but my GP says take 3 a day after surgery and the hyster sisters on this forum all recommend stool softeners so I have them packed and also oil of peppermint drops for the 'gas'.  Oh my it sounds like a fun time we are in for!  I always make sure I eat a ton of vegetables (luckily I love them) but that does seem to keep the bowel happy!  Nothing makes my bladder happyfrown, it is always mad with me but hopefully that will be fixed!

See what a state I am in, I even refer to my bowel and bladder like they are people!  Is there any hope!

Hang on it there and I hope your op goes well for you.

    Love

    Jacqui smile
