Is it hsv1 or something else??? Please help

Im going through a bit of a mental minefield at the moment, and would really appreciate any proffesional advise that's out there.Around 2.5 years ago i was 'diagnosed' with herpes. No tests were taken, but i was told i had it and given anti-virals. I had one red lump, that was ulcerated but i was also very ill with a sore throat and muscle ache at the time. Around four months ago, after never having had another outbreak, and questioning wether i had it at all, i managed to get a bloodtest (it was for hsv2 only) which happily came back negative.

    Cont...

the doctor said it was impossible to really know, but given the information it could be a) hsv1 or 2) a herpes zoster. Esither way, she said i should just forget about it and carry on with my life like nothing happened.

im finding it hard to actually  do this because im still scared i have hsv1,although i dont think i have had any reaccurances. Somwtimes i get all over body tingles (including my hands and head!) but im not sure if that is stress becuase i only get them when i obsess over the fact i might have it. This might be the case because i never get blisters or strange feeling in my genitalia. Im also so confused with the idea of having hsv1... Do i have to tell my partners?? (All the doctors seem to say no, but lots of things on the internet say i can still pass it on).

could it have beena herpes zoster??? How would that work??

      Hi Chloe,

Wouldn't it be reasonable to put the 2,5 yrs of uncertainty to rest by carrying out a test? Until you do, you will always have doubts and that will plague your life.

You are not sure if you have hsv1 so why would you tell potential partners? Only a test will say for sure so you don't risk passing it onto others.

Whatever the case, herpes is not a fatality and you can live a fulfilling life with herpes. It's just a slight inconvenience that comes from time to time smile

      Good luck smile

To carry on with UR life... I am always in absolute shock by some of the redo cultus comments dr give as an excuse to their lack of taking a few extra minutes to help fill in the blanks for their patients. It's almost neglect.

I know. I was even told by one doctor that if i had it on my genitals, it could only be type 2! That's just pure misleading lies.

I have tried to have a hsv 1 test, but because i dont have any outbreaks no one will do it even though i have asked lots of different doctors. The one who did the test for hsv2 said they wont do one for hsv1 due to fact it's something practically everyone has it. I understand that you can live with herpes, but living in this limbo is driving me crazy. I keep looking up blogs and all these things on google but the info on genital hsv1 is very contradictory. It seems less black and white than hsv2. Ive resorted to this forum because i would like to get some real, if possible proffesional advice, on how hsv1 can/cannot be transmitted genitally. I dont want to put anyone at risk, but at the same time i wouldnt want to scare anyone if there was no 'need' to tell them

If the hsv2 came back negative that generally means u have not had it and UR body shows no evidence of it by producing hsv2 antibodies by UR autoimmune system..

meaning u do not have hsv2".even though u had all the symptoms.

the if factor in UR story is that no skin sample was taken to positivly identify hv at the time u had a open sore. Since no antibodies were found in UR blood stream since I would be wondering exactly what the previous illness u describes was.

my next question is did they check u for SHINGLES? Next time a sore shows up ask for a biopsy to be taken so u will have a correct prognosis and treatment

I did think it could have been shingles, but after some independent research, i read that shingles i typically a rash that appears across chest, not a genital lump? Do you know if there are any exceptions to this case.

everyone says to keep eaiting for another blister. But for better or worse, nothing seems to be coming up on skin ( i check almost obsessivly). I sometimes get tingly stabbing pains all over my body (my hands, back and legs but never genital area) and was told it wasnt a herpes outbreak. Now i just feel paranoid if i get anything and immediatly relate it back to something it might not even be sad
