Hi
I am still not clear and haven't been back to the doctor -fear stops me. Although he did tell me after a bad outbreaknof semonella it can take quite a few months to go normally. I've read you can get PI IBS
The thing is I don't get pain and really don't have constipation very often. Unlike for years I used too.
I go regularly but when I go i do lots of pieces some are hard pieces but never just one large piece like before I had semonella. I most often end up with tiny pieces at the end and a tiny bit of mushy stuff.
Is this okay to have motions like this? Or am I paranoid? I don't get diarrea either since the poisoning 5 months ago. (Only once when I went on anti depressants) so is this really ibs - cos I'm not having pains diarrea constipation only smaller stools
And loose pieces too? Confused and very anxious every time I have a motion.
Thanks for any advice

Food poisoning can unsettle your bowel for some time and can trigger IBS. It sounds like you are having a change in bowel habit. Some people don't get pain with IBS while others don't get change of bowel habit. Everyone is different.
I started with tiny pellet like stools, then they were thin, soft and pencil like with a change of colour. They were very messy to clean and urgent. Afterwards, they went back to hard to normal and lots of little pieces.
I would go back to your doctor for a definitive diagnosis to put your mind at rest. If you do have IBS, anxiety will make symptoms worse. A diagnosis cleared up my worry and improved my symptoms.

Hi again
So did you have semonella?
And how long did your symptoms go on for
Mine has been 5 months and it sounds. Dry much like you.
The stools the same as yours. It definately is getting slowly better but I agree my anxiety wouldn't be helping
I am now doing a food chart to see if there's any correlation between any foods
I definately have more sensitivity now towards certain foods.
I guess you had a colonoscopy and endoscopy? I'm a little anxious to get them done and will leave in another month to see if there's a pattern. Apparently having more soluble fibre helps to bind stools.
Thank you again for you reply and it's good to know someone has had similar to me
Cheers

No, I haven't had salmonella; my IBS was triggered by stress. I wasn't given a colonoscopy because I had no red flag symptoms. They did do stool tests for h pylori and fecal calprotectin, a urine and celiac test and an ultrasound. Nothing showed up so IBS was confirmed.
I did have an endoscopy years ago because of hearburn that showed norhing. The only thing they could come up with was acid reflux which I still get. Over the counter antacids help along with Buscopan and Nurofen for IBS.
I had a three and a half month flare up before diagnosis with bowel habit change and constant stomach pain.

Not really. I'm fine with most foods. The only foods I have trouble with are spicy and oily foods like salami which make me vomit. This dated back to the start of my acid reflux when I was a student and my stomach started not digesting fatty foods. For years I couldn't take olive oil without getting burning, nausea and vomiting when I first visited Italy. Then when my dad started cooking with it at home, I got used to it. I also had trouble with fish and chips from takeaway shops because they cooked with lard so I switched to the oven variety. Then when I had them cooked with olive oil, the reaction went away. Onions are fine when cooked but if I eat spring onions, I get heartburn.
